Figure out where their home is and seal it off. Try to fumigate down into their holes as well. Clean the area around your dogs and keep it clean and mowed. Make sure the dogs clean their plate and there's no good left for the rats. Put out a ton of traps for several days and you ought to be rid of them. They don't like being easily visible and out in the open.

like T-bob said...make sure there are no left overs when you feed the dogs...I feed just enough that they look good and they lick the bowl clean in less than 5 minutes...I don't have rat problems but I used to have bird problems until I cut the feed back...
as a kid we had lots of rat problems on the farm...I would get a water hose and filled the rat holes up...when I saw waves a rat was coming out of the hole...and my dogs were trained to kill anything I sic'ed them on so they killed many a rat...
rats will also come to the water well during droughts so that is another thing that attracts rats...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

I take a 5 gallon bucket with a lid on it drill some holes in the side at top put dog food in the Bucket put some sacks or something for them to climb on to get to the holes when they get in they can't get out then just shake the bucket till you kill them then dump them out caught a lot like that

On youtube, theres some cool videos from great britain of folks hunting rats with their terriers, they take the business end off a chainsaw, hook a hose to the exhaust, run the hose in a rat hole or under a shed, and let er rio! In a min or 2, rats runnin everywhere,, they'll have 6-10 terriers and looks like they have themselves a real good time. Heck, you dont uave a problem! You've got something to hunt year round !

Sometimes you might need to go more basic than extravagant.
Buy a couple cases of rat traps and some jars of peanut butter. Put them out everywhere a dog cannot reach. You will get tired of dumping traps but it will get adults and lil ones.

I got a half dogo half cat and she does a good job on catching them, I guess it's the cat in her but on a serious note, I was wondering the same thing. Iv been told bout the 5gal bucket. They get in and can't get out plus if u tie it up, the dogs can't turn over and let the rodent inmates free while ur gone. IV got a lil mice problem myself and gonna try the bucket thing.

best bet is to search or google the multi catch squirrel traps and get you a design and build one . you can build them big enough to catch multiple squirrels or rats in your case . shouldn't take long to thin them out .

My uncle had a pile of fox hounds and livestock so rats were always an issue around sheds and barns. We use to trap them in a plastic 55 gal barrel. Same as the bucket. Had a 2x4 plank ran to top and a lil corn thrown in the bottom. Fun times was trying to knock them in the head with a broom handle as they run around inside drum. Easy entertainment for a 10 year old plus it kept me out of my uncles hair when he was working.

For a 55gal drum, a lil ammonia and either muratic or sulfuric acid will create a hm made mustard type gas n will kill them rats faster than that ole broom handle

Well last night the mice were knowing on the wood inside a dresser. I just emptied the dresser of the drawers and 1 mouse got away, the next drawer yielded 2 teenager mice and 12 lil pink new borns. I sent them down the swirling porcelain Oval Office. Got rid of 14 in swipe.

i had alot of rats at my dog pens and set some traps and stuff and it got old dumping rats, i got 2 cats as bad as i hate a cat and i havent seen a rat since, you might have to get you several cats to start with and end up with two smart ones, now my 2 cats have learned which dogs will grab them and which ones wont bother them, they have been shook several times but have seemed to figure it out now, i dont pet the cats or nothing like their sole purpose is to catch rats and they have way more time than i do.
