Ok, i bred some dogs and gave one to a buddy and kept one for myself. (Reason for breeding) . We are making a bet and going to set a date to see who can have the most fit dog by whatever age we decide on. This will probably be something around 8 months old. Right now the pups are 6 weeks old. They are Pitbulls. He wants to use some stuff he calls bully max or gorilla goo or something like that. I told him i could naturally get my pup more cut than his by xxx age. Now the question is what would yall feed im thinking wild game. Fish etc along with dog feed and plenty of exercise. Water working and stuff like that. I dont want the pup to grow to fast or anything of that nature. Have yall ever whipped up some home made protien for a dog ? What would yall do?

just feed him good and let him get around a 1 1/2 before u really start working for looks. you could mix ground beef and heart with some eggs and a treadmill. it really depends if you want the old school game dog look or the bulky out of shape look dog with a big grape.

I like the game dog look. Good muscle tone with low body fat.

I wouldn't set the age for conditioning comparison until at least over a year old. Gotta be careful working pups, don't want to stunt them. In the bulldog world, specifically folks that live for conditioning for adba shows, I've seen folks over do the conditioning on young pups and it can be damaging. Wind up looking like whippets lol. Remember that it's not, only what you feed, but it's putting a lot of time in to working the dog too when age appropriate. Good luck to ya!

Yea I would definitely wait until over a yr old pushing the two yr mark, most dogs don't quit growing until their around two, I wouldn't do anything for the first 6 months, that's critical growing time for pups.

I agree with all the comments made above. Working young pups to much can cause way more harm then good. That being said, I sent some plott pups over to Va. & went & hunted with this guy last fall when the pups were a little over a year old. I could not believe how much more muscular the hind ends on those dogs were from being hunted in the mountains. More definition & more mass then the litter mates. Enviroment does play a role.

Pits are naturally muscled up I have done every thing under the sun to get them to be tip top shape. Here's the thing pits are like that guy you know that never works out eats junk food and still looks good and out does every one. When the dogs gets 8 months or so put him on a tow chain this will make him stout and tone. And dog food will work all that added food don't make much diff IMO. Get a old tire tie him to it let him pull it around the yard but the best thing is to let him run and play a lot

You can also swim him. That would put the least amount of stress on young joints, tendons, & muscle until he matures. Why don't you keep a picture log, & keep us posted on his progress.

My pup just turned 5 months old, and I recently built a spring pole. I can raise and lower the rope to be able to have her tug or jump to work different muscles. It really works off that puppy energy and tires them out. It also works on their bite grip and that's a good time to teach the "dead hog" command. Good quality food, add eggs and raw, along with good old fashioned hand walking should build you a nice looking pup. Keep us updated!

yes sir. Will do. Thats what i plan to do is swim him. I live on the river and i spend alot of time in the water. my catch dog/fishing buddy/pet haha always goes with me when i walk the river (in the water) and i can notice a difference in him during the summer and winter. (With and without) the swimming. I guess what im asking is do yall think that a good dog food and alot of natural exercise like swimming and running would be to much for a young dog. I know better than to make a puppy pull weight or do some hard work until later in life. And dad gum thats a good looking dog. This pup i have is a female as well.

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...
