NCB don't get worked up. I know some of the comments in the thread might seem smart a@@'d to you but they are not intended to be that way. I'm just like you in that I don't come on here much and I don't know what has and has not been posted. I do know a few of the people on here and they are good folk. What sometimes happens, and I think maybe this is one of those times, guys on here are teasing and jacking with each other about dogs etc and use someone else's post to do it. It's all in good fun generally and taken the way it's intended. I agree with Britt, come on in and introduce yourself. I'm Kelly Barger. I live in north central Oklahoma.

Nah wouldn't get tour feathers ruffled. Typing always leaves out the human element of sensing emotion. Most of the folks that posted know each other and are friends, hunting partners or share common knowledge about the post. Have not saw a post yet that was relayed directly at you with sarcasm. Bobtail curs have always seemed to be a very debated subject that most find themselves on one side of the fence or other. Alot of research and personal knowledge have been imputed above in abbreviated posts. Any kidding or joking around is between friends. But all joking aside. I fall into the....every blackmouth is born with a tail unless his grand pappy crawled in a Mt Cur or bulldogs bed down the line.

I fall into the....every blackmouth is born with a tail unless his grand pappy crawled in a Mt Cur or bulldogs bed down the line. I certainly didn't mean any ill will with my post, and wasn't trying to be sarcastic. I was actually being very factual. I'm speaking of yellow dogs specifically...every one of them (there's only one line to my knowledge that carries the bob-tailed gene) trace back to a certain cross which was told to me to be of a certain mountain cur....but that's not good for marketing so we'll just leave it at that. The fact that they only show up in one bloodline is proof enough for me. Traits are not created within breedings...everything expressed (phenotype) is as a result of lineage. You can take two long tail dogs and breed them from now until the end of time and they'll never throw a bob tail....unless the trait was present in the lineage. My name's Bryant. (<--- That's a joke)

This is not to hi jack the post & has probably been beat to death too but it seems like half the yellow cur dogs I see have the double dew claws on the rear leg. Any particular line that throws this or is it present in most of the Yella curs. By the way, welcome to the board & my name is Mike.

many years ago...the further west the bmc went from east Texas...it was startin to look very noticeable, even to the novice...that then yeller dogs lacked range, nose and hunt, as well as de bottom...so a friend of my dad's friend barred a sho nuf hunting dog who was 1/2 plott hound and 5/8 mt cur it is not known for shure...but it is highly suspicious and moren likely it happened...hence the dew claws and the bob tails...but the real questin is what come first???the mt cur or de Plott??? the proof is in dat ole yeller movie...a good yeller dog was hard to find bak den so they had to get a big yeller mongrel of unknownst heritage to step in and make dat classic movie...I ain't a yeller dog man but I own three or for ole yeller movies in vhc and dvd just in case I lose one or two... JK... Glad to have you on board NOTCOLORBLIND....and I do like your handle...I like most colors unless it is too much white with the blue eye and pink pigment... quite a few of us have been on here for a while...just because we have been a part of the same topic several times does not mean that the newer folks have been involved...they need to feel welcome on here...it is a good thing to hear from evryones point of view...and we sure do need some fresh minds on here to keep this site alive...

Yepper Bryant, I knew your first statement went alot deeper on research and factual info than was displayed. Those conversations a year or so back were filled with excellent in depth information. Unfortunately seems those conversations always seemed to slip south on us when discussed in length on items not exactly popular to the norm. O well. It is, what it will be...............because of what it was!

Proud to be from South/Central Florida, where there has never been such a thing as a "purebred" cur dog and "mountains" have never been an issue. I have personally never met anyone who knew the blood of "every" line of a particular type of cur dog. Lots of our old lines throw bobtail dogs. I seen and made them lots of colors, but have personally, never seen a brindle one.

Reuben, did u fall into the ebonics pool??? Also, how is a dog 1/2 something and 5/8 something else? That is 1/8 over 100%. I wasnt to good in math, but that fraction statement dont add up evenly

I read in the past that natural bobtail comes from the bull dog but I can't say I agree or disagree...I know the mt cur breed has quite a bit of natural bob tails...
I like the big mt curs but nowadays the average mt cur has been bred to be a smaller dog with small ears...so many appear to be crossed with feist dogs...
even the ones I raised were not full blooded because at the very beginning I bred a mt cur gyp to a brindle bmc...and I like to bob tail my dogs as a personal preference but I like tem born with a long tail...however a dog that appears to have a long tail may actually be a bob tailed dog...so you keep breeding it and you can get 2 or 3 pups born with bob tails...that is because the sire or dam appear to have long tails but missing one vertebrae makes the dog a bob tailed dog...
oftentimes when a pup is born with a very short tail it will look, walk and run funny...and I question there stamina...
those that keep breeding for the short tail will eventually get pups with spinal bifida so they say...
and like someone mentioned earlier...most cur dogs have a mixture of other breeds in them and that is one good reason so many are not registered...
