Anybody ever seen this? I went and picked up 2 young females one being a pup to the other. The mama dog has a large "brown" spot on her hip. She didn't have this until recently. She is a yellow dog. I have known her since she was a pup. Real good looking dogs, I've just never seen this. I will post pictures tomorrow.

I had a female get one of those spots after nursing pups. I figured it was some type of fungus. I put nustock on it a few times and it went away.

Georgia, What you have there is extremely rare. You have a BMC that is trying to convert to a red leopard. You see, years ago anytime a good Catahoula thru a yella dog, it was culled & sent to somebody in Texas. Those Tx. boys got them to breed almost true, except every once in a while, they would throw a brindle, black or a smutty looking BMC. That dog is trying to revert back to the good ole catahoula breeding in which it came from. lol

I've got a bitch that is smutted up like that, think its mites or fungus but it don't bug her and isn't affecting her hunt, so in not fooling with it. Though I will say if it was catahoula coming out in her, it would make sence to me, she sure dont have enough hunt or sence to be all yellow dog...  Wink

She was cut on the back of her neck about 6 weeks ago, about 1 1/2" cut, it healed just fine....her hair grew back twice as dark.....right where it healed. She never had dark brown hair there, but now it's obvious.

Your dog is cribbing the hip.  Probably a bacteria or skin irritation. Long term cribbing will stain the hair in those areas from the small amounts of blood raised to the skin surface.

Have had a few do this in the past.

Dip in a anti-bacteria shampoo several times and should fix the problem unless its an allergic skin issue.

Nustock worked on my dog. It took awhile for the brown to fade away but the skin under the spot looked good.

Wanted to do an update, I went out and got some stuff called AniMed blue lotion topical spray and it seems to be working. The dark brown spots are fading and hair is returning. I thought it was only going to turn her hair dark brown , but it actually began balding in those spots so I reckon It was some sort of infection
