Got a gyp that has hair loss around her neck and some down her tail and side.  This gyp had puppies 9 weeks ago and I had took her off them when they were 4 weeks old. So she has been alone for approx. 5 weeks.  She shows no sign of excessive scratching or redness in the spots where she has lost hair, so I know it cant be fleas or mange.  She was just put on a vitamin supplement since I have heard that her hormones and nutrients that she has lost might be the cause.. Any more ideas or experiences with gyps that do this after whelping?  I have also givin her ivomec injections under the skin for the last 2 weeks.

I had just posted some stuff about a female I have, I got the dog from a good friend. Anyway sh had a litter of pups about 6 months previous to me getting her.  She developed dark brown spots on her body. ( one on each hip and one on the middle of her ribs.) The guy I got her from was convinced she was "turning " that color. She's a yellow dog. Anyway I knew better than that and posted some pictures on this site, I was told it was probably some sort of fungus or bacterial infection.  Sure enough about  a week later she started loosing hair in those spots. I went out and got some stuff called AniMed blue lotion topical spray and started putting that on it daily. The dark is fading away, and I believe I'm seeing hair coming back in. She , just like your dog didn't seem to be bothered by the spots. No itching ect. Good luck, if you find something else that works please let us know, I know I always like to know what is working and what aint. Thanks !!

I'd still dip her or treat her for fleas and then treat her with Ivomec and a wormer. Dip her a couple times during the week and give her the Ivomec at the start of the week then a week later. I use 1cc for my dogs mixed with around 9cc of liquid wormer.  They weigh from 60 to 70 lbs.

pups can sure pull one down so you got to stay on top of worming and nutrition.

try this and i'd bet you'll see a change by the 2nd week, Good luck with her.

Highwater, my Parker gyp did that after the litter she just had. Lost a lot of hair all over. Most noticeable on the underside of her neck and tail. I called my uncle who is a vet, and he said it is fairly common. Lasted about 3- 4 weeks on her then stopped.

That's pretty much what this one did man.. Bout 3 weeks ,, I washed her down with medicated soap and rubbed her afterward with coconut oil.. Shes shiny and perty now.. Don't know if that stuff helped but shes good to go.. I just don't like none of my dogs looking ruff,, Kinda picky like that.. When they shiny and in shape they hunt better  Grin
