I have a male pit, just turned a year old last month. He only weighs 40 lbs or so. His parents were big, mom 60, dad 70 or so. Yall reckon he'll grow any more within the next 6 months?? I have had people tell me no, and some say maybe a little. I'm just thinking he won't be able to hold much of anything @ 40 lbs. what y'all think.

I like a smaller bulldog they hold with there mouth and pull with there legs so a 40 lb dog can pull pretty good. I seen more big ones that weren't good vs smaller ones. I say he will be just fine vest em up and catch some hogs. Good luck with him

Bulldogs can fill out till bout two there structure can change a lot if worked hard and conditioned. But he might put on few lbs. get a harness to fit him and a small tire let him pull the tire around the yard then up grade to something heavier he will build up his power and stamina

Bulldogs can keep growing up to and a little past two years and they will keep filling out and thickening up as they get older. It just depends, like people some might be mature at a fairly young age and some might take a little longer. With dogs 12 months and younger I usually worry a little about their teeth but that is just me.
Good luck either way.

As far as I know he is full APBT. dad was registered and mom sure as heck looked like a full pit. He just doesn't have the big head or body size I was expecting.

this half AB half APBT just hit a year old. He probably put on 15-20 lbs in the last month and a half. He was a solid 50 pounds at 7 months old and didn't grow much from that. Then all of the sudden blew up. He's every bit of 70 lbs now. He does all I ask of him. I think he's a good medium between being built like a tank but still has good leg.

Good looking dog slim. Mine has caught snout without hesitation every time, but he's had help to hold. He's only had experience with hogs being let out of traps...not walked into a bay yet. His day will come and we'll see.

i totally agree with judges last post. for a catchdog it is totally how the dog performs. and it depends on the pack of dogs you have also. a small bulldog is fine if the other dogs catch once the bulldog does. if they dont join in i prefer a bigger dog if hes doin all the holding. good luck with the young dog.

Ive had a pit that was 50 lbs before a year gain another 10 lbs of muscle and bone mass after a year. It can happen. feed him high quality food and he will reach his genetic potential. Put him on a good size chain and he will look like hes on roids!!!

anyone notice dogs growing faster on cheap feed compared to good quality? I would have thought it would be the opposite, but from what I have seen corn based foods have pups growing faster and I dont know how it affects their final size. Dont know if there would be any easy way to even check that.

I agree...but if they are of the stream lined type it won't be much more...
