This a few pics. of some of the bears we got this season. We killed 6 the first weekend with one going 536# & one going 580#. My 14 yr. old cousin got to kill his first bear & it was a 375# bear bayed on the ground. 5 of the 6 bear we treed the first weekend bayed on the ground with only one treeing & that one was a 194# sow. We also killed a 277 lber. & a 442 lber. My buddy Terry walked my cousin in within 10 ft. to kill the 375 lber & you want to talk about excitement with the dogs baying so loud you could hardly hear anything. He put one shot in that bears noggin & rolled it right over. One cool kid. Next weekend we killed two that weighed 215# & 250#. I did not make it the 3rd weekend but they killed two & I did not get the weights on them. Good dog work by everybody involved. Everybody had dogs chewed up from that first weekend. 536# bear that Terry shot. (Cold Blood)  580# bear shot by Mr.  277# bear   2 bears shot the 2nd weekend   |

x2...they used to say a 500 pound bear was very seldom caught...I reckon with the newer laws the bear have a chance to mature... after jumping each bear how long did you all have to run them before they came bayed or treed? |

Who used to say a 500# bear was never caught? Fat bears are like fat men, they can't run far, normally to the thickest cover they can find. They might have said that because back in the day 500# bear were extremely rare. The main reason we are seeing bigger bear is we are baiting them. You feed a bear all the peanut butter they want & they really pack on the pounds. lol It's those little bear that will run the dogs all over the country. Thanks everybody.

that's what I meant to say...they were seldom caught because they were rare on account of hunting pressure back before better management practices...I was reading about some black bear that weighed about 850 pounds or so that was killed a few years ago... |

Always enjoyed your stories and thought a lot of the dogs you have. What and incredible hunt and adventure those weekends must of been. I've always liked hounds and you make me like'm even more.

If you cook them in the crock pot, you cannot tell it from beef & very tender. that is my favorite way to cook it. It also makes some very good sausage.
