Yall will call me I know. But I live here in north east Georgia. We have an okay hog population in some areas but its hard to find properties large enough to run dog's. I do a fair amount of trapping for folks though. Usually home owners, small property owners etc. Anyway I just recently finished up building a decent sized bay pen to satisfy my dog addiction when I aint getting much action in the woods. I live right on the broad river its literally in my back yard so I fish a good bit. The pen is right next to the river. I caught a carp the other day and decided to see if that hog would eat it. She went crazy for it. Ate the whole thing in a hurry. She is a wild hog. Anyway I thought that was crazy so I decided to do some redneck research if you will. I put all these things in there at the same time. Dry corn, sour beer corn, Kool aid corn, peanut butter, and a brim fish. I did this several times. She always ate the fish first. And ate it like she was starving to death. And she eats plenty. I think when the weather gets cold enough to keep some fish fresh I might put a few in the trap. Maybe chunk them up and mix with corn. I know coons and possums with be an issue but a coon would have to work real hard to set off these traps. Anyway I figured id put this out there. Might help a man catch that shy hog. I also saw a guy on youtube catch hogs with some dang dead snakes in a trap. I dont know about that though.

I have seen the trap baited with snake video. Can say From personal experience I believe it's true. Took a skinned 6ft rattle snake and threw it out in one of our hay patches the hogs had got in the night before. Sat on the bed of the truck not 40 yards from that snake. Heard coyotes light up in the creek bottom so I started calling. All the sudden my buddy tells me to shut up and all we hear is grunting. Shine the green light over to where the snake was and a big boar hog was eating it. Popped him right in his medulla

Thats pretty cool. This hog with these fish is pretty neat. Sometimes she'll just eat the fish and wont touch anything else. She goes crazy over a fish. Standing on it and pulling it apart .. just eating it as fast as she can.

Goerga I have caught a lot of big fat hogs and big teeth hogs over the yrs. I tribute the size and teeth to the big creek I mostly hunt on the creek called chambers is a big creek that spans many miles. There are break down spots between lakes that feed it so in a few mile span it could go from being at its banks to almost dry this causes a large amount of fish to be caught in the shallows and die. But you never see many fish. Many yrs ago I thought this is why I make the earlier statement. And I still believe it. I have few wild hogs in my holding pen my wife fried some catfish the other day and was plenty leftovers. I told her them hogs would eat it before it hit the ground she laughed I threw in there and it was gone it seconds she said wow I said I told you. Lol

I never would have thought about it judge. But Im sure gonna give it a shot when this weather gets cold and stays that way. Here lately its a t shirt in the day and ice on the windshield in the morning. Lol . And SLIM I put that carp in there alive. But the rest of the times I would knock em in the head before putting them in there. I dont do it often because I like to eat fish to. But every now and then I'll give her one. And she eats it the same way ever time.

I talked to a fella that does land management for the paper companies here in la and Mississippi awhile back. He told me about some research that he was part of at the idlewilde research station that the state wildlife and fisheries owns. They were in process of testing hog baits that actually kill the hogs but the thing he said that attracked the hogs the best was bait made with fish meal. Now I ain't gonna spread the secret ingredient he mentioned that does the killing but they definitely like fish smell/ flavor. I also started feeding my butcher hog some fish scraps after some pig farmers told me they loved fish and they didn't lie. That hog tears up some frozen mullets I caught for gar bait.

I know they love snake...during the drought season sometimes the water moccasins would go in the pig pen to the hog wallows we kept wet with the water bucket...the hogs will catch them and shake the crap out of them and then gobble them down...they also love chicken...once they kill and eat one they will try to catch and eat them every chance they get...we had several hogs that acquired the taste for fresh chicken...the chickens would go in the pig pen during feeding time and sometimes they didn't make it out...fish...I have seen wild hogs eating them on the national geographic channel...

We used to have a deer lease in south texas and every time we would kill a deer we would dump the carcass out in the pasture found out after trying to shoot coyotes that 9 times out of 10 the yotes wouldn't even make it to it the hogs would have it all cleaned up bones and all by the next morning. As far as the fish that's all I fed my hogs besides corn was the fish scraps and all the trash fish I would shoot while bowfishing never would be anything left

I've fed hogs fish carcaasses my whole life I used to fish offshore as much as I hunt now before they closed red snapper down but anyway I always fed the domestic hogs all the carcaasses I once fed them an entire bull shark about a 300lber.The hogs I catch love fish to we also feed them frog carcaasses and they tear them up as well.I never thought of baiting a trap with fish though I bet that it would work way better than corn though.

I used to have a pen full of hogs from the time I was 15 up until I was around 22, I had several generations that was raised right there in that pen I could turn them out and put my bay dogs on them and mess with my pups but would never put a catch dog or rough dog on them, after I caught my dogs off the hogs would eventually come back out the woods and I could toll them back to the pen with any type of food but if had some fish they would dang near run me over, I watched them hogs over the years and tried different types of food from carcasses to rotten vegetables and the only thing I saw that they wouldn't eat was okra of all things, I bet if you soaked some corn for about a week with fish scraps when it cools off they would tear into it...

If u want cheap trap bait find a place that fries lots of fish like a buffet. They clean out the fryers regular. Most of the time the burnt oil is free. Dump a bucket in the trap and they are on the way. Combine that with some trimmings and u got a sho nuff good bait.

I can't say that I ever thought of using fish to bait traps but I do normally feed my pen hogs fish scraps..........
A few years back we accidentally missed a 27" redfish in a cooler when cleaning them the night before, I found it the next day (thankfully) and figured what the hell hogs eat anything.......... to this day i am surprised at how fast our hog devoured that redfish. That dang hog ate every ounce of that fish down to the last scale in record time...
