Is it legal? Is freeze branding or hot branding them better? Has anyone done it and have pictures? Thanks

Yes it is legal. Freeze brand is more common today. I have not done my own but helped brand some a time or 2. It is not painless for the dog. If done right it looks good and will always be clearly visible.

No I don't know anyone hot branding. Yes the hair does grow back white in some dogs but not all. Black dogs will be white. It is a very obvious way to identify your dog. A few months back I saw a dog on Facebook that had been posted found. No collar or anything just the brand. In 15 min of the original post the owner was found. Dog had slipped it's collar and got loose.

Go to general discussion and type in freeze branding in the search eng. it pulls up a bunch of already discussed q&a on this topic, which could answer a lot, if not all your questions in those links, from what type of iron to where to get the iron and what to use. It would be faster to scroll through those, read the replies, write down the info you need, compared to asking more questions here and waiting for a reply to something that has more than likely already been answered.

I helped a bud freeze brand his dogs.
It is not painless for the dog.
This is true and you got to hold iron down for I think it was 15seconds, cant really remember. His 'rape' stand, 'breeding stand' came In mighty handy.
They all came out pretty good. The hair on the buckskin, brindle and black dogs grew back white.
On white dogs you have to heat brand.
