I can make this dog raise a little cain by saying "WHAT!! " to him and he gets all tore up. Not aggressive what so ever.  He just starts jumping around and barking like crazy. Soon as I say hush he gets back quiet. Anyway I was going to video it on my phone. I thought I hit the record button but it snapped a picture instead.  This was it. I thought it was pretty cool.

Good pic. I have a few of mine I can get riled up by messing with them. They enjoy it and will be bouncing and growling and barking. Walk over and they fall all over themselves to be petted. Lol vicious I tell ya.

Thats the way he is. I was doing that when my buddy was over here. I had the dog all fired up and he was convinced he would bite me. Lol. We was arguing back and forth about it. I got him fired up again and my buddy said " now rush him without clicking at him or saying anything " lol. Mean ole dog just jumped all over me. Tail running 90 to nothing and wanting some petting.  Later on my buddy was saying I bet if somebody messed with you he would bite them. I was really unsure what he might do. So we decided to wrestle around real hard within reach of the dog and he did absolutely nothing. We was really slinging each other around and trying to get the dog to do something.  nothing. One of the curs was going nuts though..

The opinion of most would be that it's not good "business" to play those kinds of games with a bulldog, not even to see what one will do. Anything that could possibly lead to man aggression should be discouraged. Not picking on ya just another perspective on handling bulldogs.

Its not something I encourage or do on a regular basis. As far as jumping at him saying "what" and getting him all riled up, I do that pretty often. He's just not the aggressive kind and I am by no means trying to encourage him to be mean. Ive done this type of things with him since he was a pup. He just barks at me when I want him to. He knows what he's doing and so do I. I do understand your perspective though and I do not in no way shape or form try to make a dog be mean. Even though I said I was unsure of what he'd do if we wrestled around I still VERY HIGHLY doubted he would do anything.

This olé dog sure means alot to us. I try not to get to attached to a working dog but this fella has been a sho nuff good one.  He's a catch dog for sure. But also a pet.  Listens better than any dog I've ever had. Most time's I can call him off a hog verbally.  Even if one breaks and hes after it. He proved this to me in a cow pasture with a hog that was buddy buddy with the cows. The hog would run right to the middle of the cows and stop. I didn't want the dog in there like that so id give him the command to come back and he would. Several times within a few minutes.  Finally the hog made a B line for the woods and It was on. I know theres alot of em on Craigslist but everybody has an irreplaceable dog and for me he's the one.

Back when we had catch dog competitions around here I used to catch my dogs several times a week, I had a little black and white Eli bred dog I would make a hissing sound every time I would start walking towards his chain to get him off and would always do that at the gate, he eventually learned when he heard that sound he was getting to catch something, I could get him so fired up his little eyes would instantly turn bloodshot and he would start digging and biting at the ground, even when he acted possessed like that he would always remain level headed towards me.

It's easier to get a new one than break one. You don't train bulldogs you break bulldogs. If there was a such thing as a good bulldog they'd have a price tag.

The good ones do have price tags...usually more than most would spend.

The people you are saying that nonsense to do know this game. Very well. We all know you might get a good dog from the pound and good for you that you did. But just plain stupid to say all pound dogs are good or that good ones are easy to get at the pound. Just plain wrong. Plenty of bad bulldogs at the pound. And yes you will have a higher percentage of good ones from good line bred catch dogs.

Just get another one if he gets aggressive. They're dime a dozen. Go on Craigslist and get one for free in no time at all.
I sure wish I would have known they were so cheap before I went and spent all that money and all that time trying to get really good bulldogs! I guess I better get on Craigslist right now and get me some of those "good" bulldogs before everyone figures out the secret...

Bulldogs are not a dime a dozen. I don't know bryant, but just from reading his posts I do believe he knows his stuff about bulldogs. I met Scott once and talked to him over the phone numerous times, the most I ever paid for a dog was from him, its not like it was a fortune and I don't regret a single cent of it. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I would listen and take in everything those guys had to say about what a bulldog should be.

Let me add a caveat to that. It is not a good idea to do stuff like that WITHOUT A PROFESSIONAL PP DOG TRAINER PRESENT.  I only really ever want a dog that is protective, not aggressive. There is a HUGE difference between an all out man aggressive dog, and a true protective dog that you can trust with your family. the only real way to know is to have the dog evaluated by a professional.

Most of us can. we spend what most people would consider an ungodly amount of time with our dogs so we know our dogs much better than most "dog lovers". It is just for those dog lovers that I suggest seking professional help in evaluating a dog. Smiley

georgia, in todays era, even parents need professional help raising their children, or at least thats what big brother wants you think. come on man, get with the current times and get the "professional" help you so desperately need because some stranger knows you and your dogs better than you know yourself and your dogs.

by the way georgia, i was being very sarcastic. keep doing what you know you should do and learn from the mistakes you and I and the rest of us make as humans. its all part of being human and growing up. additionally, I'm not saying you are making mistakes with your raising/training of your dogs, i was saying mistakes just in general.
