I've read on other forums and heard other guys say that, they only hog hunt and keep hog dogs because there are too many and they're a nuisance and destructive blah blah blah. And that they wish they'd all be eradicated, and they'd just go back to coon hunting like old days. Seems to me that most true hog doggers would want them completely wiped out and are as passionate about hog hunting as the tree stand hunters are about there precious whitetail.
Thoughts?

I would have to go back to drinking if there were no more swine to chase. The only time I kill a hog is if the property owner insist on it or someone wants to eat it.I try my hardest to maintain a healthy population in my hunting spots for the future.

I figure I could find something to run with my dogs.  Ha ha ha   I'll be a dogman until I die, even if I have to hunt Easter eggs with them.

I agree, I'm always gonna hunt behind some kind of dog. I guess my question should have been, we don't want them all gone do we?  Would we be just as happy chasing something else?

I am with you Oconee I have always been a dogman, if I cannot run hogs I would just move to something else.

But to answer the OP's question and I have very limited experience but I get way more of a rush from running hogs over coon, which are the only two things I have ran dogs on so far, but hopefully that will be changing too. So no I would not want them eliminated all the way. I know some farmers may hate hearing that, and maybe its selfish but I sure do have fun chasing them when I get the opportunity. Just wish there were more out here like you fellas have them out there.

I wouldn't want to them wiped out, they've been here as long as America has (read up on American History), their part of this countries natural landscape as is a whitetail deer, they've just gotten out of control, and need to be maintained and they could be if people would respect other people and they're belongings, back to the original question, I've never not had some sort of hunting dog in the 28 yrs I've been blessed to walk this earth, my dad always had beagles and deer dogs and ever since I was 15 I've had hog dogs so I would hunt something as long as it left a track my dogs could smell.

I'd still hav cow dogs and prolly try to start running cats as well. I love hog hunting but mainly just like watching a good dog work.
