I use hobbles and while I am walking into the bay, I make sure the loops are formed so I am ready when I get there.  If you are well prepared, the hobbles should work right.

I have and do use muletape also.  I think the one advantage is, you can use it on any size hog.  It is kind of frustrating when pre made hobbles are too small or too big.

Opps i looked at his viseo again.hogwrangler ties one up one foot at a time by himself in 28 seconds.he uses double half hitches

Id like to know some more about this. Bo of you could elaborate on the way you do it that would be awesome.  I don't get on many hogs but I like to tie them and bring them home alive sometimes.  We mostly just kill them. The last one I tied out of a trap looked like some kindergarten kids did it and on top of that we duck taped that sucker. He made it home but dang I'd like to know how yall pros do it.

I never liked mule tape til last year I hunted with a guy from lousaiana. He handed me
A piece of mule tape and said here tie. He had 2 pieces tied. Each piece formed a loop about 18 inches across and you can hang 2 around your neck while walking to a bay. You use one loop to tie two legs togethor like some home made hobbles. Just make a slip loop and stick a leg in it and make another slip loop and stick the opposite leg in it. It's hard to explain in writing but it's easy to do by your self

That sounds simple enough, thanks!

tie the tape or small rope into the loop about 18" as he said. when your ready to tie, take the tape/rope and make kind of a half hitch loop and place the open end over the leg, as the hog pulls against the loop, it tightens up more around the the leg, pull the tape/rope and the opposing front or rear leg, depending which end you tied first, and do the same half hitch loop and put it around that leg. with both pieces or tape/rope on all 4 legs, the tape/rope will make an X where they cross each other between the legs. the more the hog struggles and tries to pull its legs apart, the tighter the loop knots get. to take them off, release the tension by pulling a leg towards the X and put a lil slack in the loop and take it off. its nothing fancy, no sheep shank or bolan knots, just a simple half hitch loop. similar to tying a slip knot from a single strand of rope/tape.

Take a piece of muletape (or rope) and cut it so it is about 40 inches long (for practicing).  Tie the two ends together so you have a loop (about 20 inches long).

Holding the loop up in front of you stick one hand in each end so that the loop runs around you fingers (not you wrist).  Reach your fingers to the center of the loop and grab the middle pieces and pull them back through the loops your fingers are in.

This makes a hobble that slips with tension.  When there is no tension, the hobbles loosen.

Setting it up is the easy part and the first loop usually goes on smooth.  The second loop can be a little tricky when the loop come loose before you put it on the hog.  A good partner that knows how to hold the feet can be a big help.  I still think the easiest option for mule tape is to loop one leg and take the free running ends, going to another leg and pulling the free ends through a loop formed.  Once you pull the legs tight together and tie a square knot, you can walk away and be sure he is not going anywhere.  I believe this was mentioned earlier.

Has anyone used duct/gorilla tape? That's what my buddies use and it seems to work. Gorilla tape seems to be better and more moisture resistant. Quick and easy and hasn't broken yet. Anyone have cons to this type of hobbling?

Like he said. It's hard to explain in typing on how to tie a hog lol but he did a good job , We use hay string a lot too . We take a piece about 6 foot long and double it and tie the two ends together to make a big loop. And the reason we use haystring is because one roll will last awhile and it stays tied good. But we make a big loop. We use it like one piece of string just double strength. Lay the hog on side and place the string under his front leg slide the string so you will have a equal amount on each side of his leg  and tie a square knot on the top side of his leg  and then another square knot on top of that one . Pull a back leg and hold it on top of that square knot and tie a square knot on top of that leg and another square knot and keep stacking legs and square knots and its looks real uniform and they will be there next week. Any tied hog is always better than a dead hog

I only read at work but I will try n demonstrate how I do it with mule tape (using my mouse cable).
First cut u a piece of mt length is your preference.
2-tie both ends together making a knot

3-place hand in the loop and grab top of mt.

4- slide the loop of your hand n put hogs foot in hole it makes

5- cinch down

6- repeat steps 3-5

So once you cinch it on the legs you just keep tension on it? It seems like the hog could pull his foot out as soon as there was no tension on it

Hard to tell but the second video looks like i tie mine.  I take 6ish foot piece of mule tap and put a small loop in one end.  usually a bowline knot, then run the tail through that to make a loop.  The first foot goes in that loop then i usually put a half hit on top of it (dont know why probably not needed).  Then from there i go to the opposite front leg and throw a clove hitch in it, then back to the other back leg with another clove hitch then the last front foot with another clove hitch, topped with a half hitch.

When i untie, i start with the first leg, undo the bowline which slacks the half hitch, and then go to the clove hitches.  very rarely do i have to cut the line, if i do its usually out of laziness.

I'll try to explain how I tie.

I start with about a 6' piece of 1/2" muletape, double it over and make a slip knot with two ends. I put that over the front bottom foot first. I wrap one end backwards around the leg and tie a square knot. Then using one end I half hitch the top front leg to the bottom. Then using that same end I half hitch the bottom back leg, and using the other piece I half hitch the top back leg so the two strands cross but it keeps from you having to try and pull the back bottom leg up through the middle of the other three tied feet.

Not sure if it makes any sense but that's the best I can explain. Its quick, it works and requires no tension. Most of the time on big hogs I use hand cuffs, the fastest and easiest way.
