I was down at our coast house fishing this weekend, and there was a boat full of guys and dogs that were pulling up and hunting on the islands off Piper Channel.  Piper is the channel leading into Island Moorings from the innercoastal.  I didn't ever get a chance to ease over and talk to the guys, but I would have liked to.  Anyone on here perhaps one of these guys, or know who it might be?  I'm down there pretty frequently and would like to maybe join on a hunt sometime.

Thanks!

Yeah I know of some boys that hunt the islands in matagorda. Supposedly completely legal long as the island don't have houses on it

Ok. Actually I retract that statement due to them same boys not being welcome on much property in our county because they trespass and have such a bad rep

Over 35 years ago my brother and I hunted a few places on both sides of the intercoastal  canal and there were quite a few rattle snakes...saw 3 or 4 each hunt...average length just under 4 ft long and a few now and then at 6 ft...

Wait. How is it legal for people to go set up duck blinds on them island then? I imagine if that's legal.... I don't know why the state would care about someone catching a hog or 2. Figured they'd encourage it

It's illegal, you will definetly be cuaght if you arent killed by wild cattle or rattlesnakes first and that's all you need to know, quit talking about it, nobody should try hunting any of those coastal islands.  Subject settled.

That's no joke. I used to collect snakes for venom extraction. I've collected snakes from California to Florida, probably 10+ species of rattlesnake alone in 5 different states. Most of them are docile and what you see as aggression is almost always a bluff unless they're hurt. They might swing their head at you but if you know what you're looking at you'd see the mouth was shut and it was just a bluff to scare you. The only truly *mean* rattlesnakes I've ever seen were Texas diamondbacks on the coast islands. Those daddy didn't marry mommy *are* coming to get you, period. I don't know why they're so damn onery, but it's the only diamondbacks I found that will chase you instead of try to run away.

No sir, I'm no island hunter. I've hunted the beach here and there, but I don't have a boat motor to carry me out there right now

I grew up in Edna along the navidad river before it became lake Texana...there were very few gators around there back then...and no wild pigs...In lake texana they caught and killed one gator at 14'4"  and another at 14'6"...
