Does anybody pour their worming meds (ivomec, safeguard, etc..) on bread or something like that?  When I give the meds it seems like my dogs salivate and shake their heads so much some of the good stuff has to end up on the ground.  Figured someone else has had, and solved this same problem.

I  mix antibiotic capsules in their food as well as all wormers...this way the dogs will trust me...I usually wait until we will have some type of meat and gravy and have my wife make extra...l will save it and mix all together and the dogs will lick their bowls clean...I mix in a little dog food as well...just enough food to camouflage the taste...
When we call the dogs to give a vaccine or shove  nasty pil down their throat they will quickly learn to dodge your calls...

I just started using the paste version of ivermectin (the cheap apple flavor one at tractor supply) and the paste version of strongid and safeguard (alternating every month to prevent the worms from building immunity). They are the wormers for horses. I just tore a piece of bread in half, the on that half I put wormer on one side and peanut butter on the other. I used about about as much wormer as how much tooth paste I use. The a spoon full of peanut butter on the other side. Folded the piece of bread over in to a little sandwich and my dogs loved it

The problem with the paste wormers is that the meds aren't distributed evenly throughout the tube so you can't be sure how many ch med thedog is actually getting.

That's the biggest draw back to paste wormers...

I use liquid ivomec and draw up the dosage in the syringe and then fill the rest of the syringe up with water, I noticed every time I gave my dogs the worm med they would do the same thing, so that when I started to fill the rest up with water, they take it like a champ now and go on about their business...

I wanted to get the liquid form of ivermectin but couldn't find it at tractor supply. I know the dosage on the liquid but couldn't ever find a set dose of the paste. So on the ivermectin I did an amount about the size of a pea. If y'all are not using paste for strongid and safeguard, what are y'all using?

Another thing I've noticed with the ivomec liquid wormer, when using the generic brands on dogs and cattle the animal didn't really react to it when given sub-cue but when using the merial brand you could tell they sang sure felt it, I'm not sure if it's a god thing or not but seems like the Merial brand is stronger, I've made this observation on more than one bottle as well...

Where do you administer the shots? In the back leg?

I have used this since 2005 and it works well. I have never had a problem with worms of any kind and I don't work monthly like I should.

I use liquid Ivomec for heartworms @ .1 ml per 10lbs orally.
I have given the same dosage sq to a dog with demodex before it was eliminated from the gene pool.

Tmatt, never heard of that wormer before. After I run out of the paste I will try it. Especially with it being that cheap! I'll have to keep looking for the ivermectin in liquid form. Maybe they were just out the day that I bought the paste. I would much rather use liquid on that one since it can be dangerous in too high of a dose.
