Well we had a run in with a boar I think I've ran into before. Same exact bed, same exact story line with how the dog just kinda slow rolled to him and started blowing up. First time I sent a crappy bulldog to him and he missed, hog broke, I saw that hog that night and he had to be over 300. My old Lady belle gyp took him over 2 miles through open pasture and got bayed on him again on property that ain't mine so I had to call her off and she came back cut up all flesh wounds. Well I didn't see him this time but he about killed my pancho dog. He hooked him in the guts pretty good when he broke(which was right when we sent cd) anyway This is the second hog that I'm almost positive I've had multiple run ins with and all that ever happens is I leave with cut up dogs. The other hog I've struck and ran him probably close to 10 times. Just kinda got me to thinking, maybe there's just some hogs in them woods that ain't supposed to be caught with dogs. Is there a such thing as too big or too rank?

Ain't no such thing. You might not catch them each time or what ever but they are catchable

Mr.Parker being completely honest, with myself and about the situation. I didn't catch this hog for 2 reasons. 1st is we were hunting a yr old pup of mine who will strike consistent and hunt his ass off but he ain't quite made up his mind on whether he wants to be rough or not. His daddy is a jam up hood dog that's pretty darn rough. Gets hunted in a vest every time out. Painted with scars, he's CRC 's dog.  Momma will jump with another gritty dog. But he got knocked around early as a pup and it backed him up for a while, think his nuts starting to drop though. A 2 yr old gyp I wouldn't consider more than well started. Inconsistent with how she hunts. Today she casted 3/4 mile with my pancho pup. Tomorrow she might follow the mule most the time, she is starting to strike more consistently intact she struck the boar hog today. This gyp is loose but has as much bottom as you could ask for and this ole girl can flat fly. And the 3rd dog is a 1.5 old silent walker gyp of mine named pancake. She's a Started coon dog that was given to me recently and she's my secret project lol. Never even seen a hog in her life before today. So these 3 dogs ain't real familiar with each other and they haven't come into their own yet even, so it's gonna be hard for awhile for them to hold a good bay, but we will keep hunting them together and they'll learn and we will start catching again. 2nd reason is we should have sent the catch dog soon as pancho told me Annie was being honest and that it was a hog. Nope, instead I tried to get close before Tim turned weezy to them because after the brush crashing we heard we thought it might be a Charolais bull in there. And I wanted to be right on him when he hit to try and avoid any unnecessary damage to my dogs. Well I took longer than them young dogs could hold bay and he broke right as we turned weezy. I cost the dogs that hog in that aspect

I've caught 3 boar hogs this year that had shredded ears big teeth, heavy shield all in the 200-220lb range ... True war horses. 2 of them had been known in different areas for being dog killers, hogs that couldn't be caught.. What I've learned is on hogs like these the dogs can't always do it alone.. If you know where he's headed when he breaks. Cold pack to him from the front make him change direction if you can make him take a different route than he normally takes everytime he can be caught... Another time I was working out of town and living with a friend of mine in Marquez I didnt have any of my dogs with me just hunting behind his and they were mighty fine.. we had jumped a boar hog 7 or 8 times over the course of a year in this 1 block of woods... Always got dumped or lost him.. We jumped him 1 night and kept cutting him off from hitting his normal track 45 min later he finally come out the backside on some new country. We tied him about 2 miles later he had shredded ears and good teeth went 260/270

1 of em was known for swimming the river right at the locks on the trinity, so when they got him up and running I went straight to the main channel When I rounded the bend he was halfway across I run the boat up to him and roped him.

I just lucked out when I tied him, he was the final hog that put us on top at the Chris jones

Using your smarts will help you. And a touch of a game plan. But most of the time it comes down to how your using the dogs that you have and knowing when to change tactics and dogs for what a hog has done

the fun part is making a plan...and then catching him according to plan...

He runs north east, I need him to run due south and I got a real good shot cause the woods narrow out quick (down to about 200yards wide for the last mile and a half) and dumps him on  a county rd with a ton of pasture land on the other side. and if he jumps in the the creek bed before he hits the road he's liable to bay up under the low water crossing bridge. Pancho gets healthy we will go right back. I don't think we ran him to far. When I found pancho and hauled butt to vet we left pancake an Annie bayed on him again in a tank about 1 mile from where he was struck. No telling how long they bayed on him or whether he broke again. But hopefully we didn't run him too far. Good thing is I have a lot of acreage right there in that spot and the way he was running I have all them woods except for 400 acre dairy. Might have to call the old man and ask for one time permission to hunt it so I can go on a head hunt for this boar.

I can't hunt all the woods from where he was struck for about 3 miles north. And a mile south.

They can all be caught.  Sometimes an adjustment in strategy or dog may be needed.

Man! Dos x's that even worse! Lol
Man I sent a couple dogs to Ryan this past week to hunt for me. He said, man Doobie was all butt hurt!
I was like go figure! I got home Sunday night from being out of town, and he wouldn't even come out his barrel to let me pet on him. He's still all butt hurt he didn't get to go! Haha I thought it was pretty funny. He'll sure enough get his feeling hurt.

Right now I don't own a dog over a year and a half. And the oldest dog we hunt is a started 2yr old. I think by the end of deer season I might just have a few worth their weight in feed. All the young dogs were hunting got some sure enough want to, and some of them are starting to really roll deep. That Damn ole black pup of mine went and let this rank one hang him in the guts so he probably gonna be a sour puss for the next month since he will be out of commission. Gonna put this walker gyp of mines nose in the dirt as much as I can and see if I can make something out of her while he's down.  She's a year and a half and Has no problem casting deep. If she takes to hogs and has decent track speed. I might have a fayette county hogs worst nightmare, long range, loose, silent, cold nosed hound! (That is all plowed ground for a food plot. not hog rooting) https://vimeo.com/185554420
