Well as the saying goes "when one door opens, another closes".... I lost my pancho pup today about 5:30 pm. Brother walked in the house and found he had passed. It appears as though he went quickly and peacefully, which I guess if he had to go that's how I would have wanted it to go. I use the saying because this weekend me and my buddy Tim took a trip to north Texas. Had a hunt planned with CRC, the original idea was get pancho and boomer(his daddy who CRC owns) together for a hunt for the first time but 2 weeks ago pancho met a good boar hog who put a tooth in his guts so he was laid up and couldn't go. I was also up there to pick up 2 half sister of panchos out of boomer and a little better gyp than panchos mom was. Well we made the hunt and still had a good time even though I was missing my buddy pancho. Didn't get to put our hands on a hog but dogs did well and Carlton was a great guy who I enjoyed getting to meet and hunt with. Well after the hunt we get back to Carltons to grab the pups and head back to my house in stephenville and we ended up leaving with 3 half sisters. Carlton also told me he had talked to a gentleman by the name of Monty bennet about me and Tim and the tough run of luck we've had. So Monty said if we wanted to come to his place he might have a pup or 2 for us.  So Sunday evening we gave Monty a visit and again, nothing but good things to say about him. A true dog man in my eyes, no bs, don't care if he hurts your feelings kinda guy. He's gonna tell you like it is. Well Monty ended up sending us home with 2 pups brother and sister. And another gyp pup out of a different breeding. Got home late this morning, been playing with the pups and everything all day. Introduced pancho to his half sisters of which I've been saying for the last 2 weeks, that if Pancho could stay alive long enough for one of his sisters to show me they would make, I was breeding him. Well someone bigger than me had other plans because like I said Pancho passed today. He will forever rest under a big live oak out at a family place of ours here in schulenburg. He was my best friend, and well on his way making a hand. Couple guys thought he might even be one of the greats. I just don't know if I can keep doing this thing without that little black daddy didn't marry mommy. RIP PANCHO here's a picture I took today. Pancho and his half sister Shadow. not a single other dog of mine has ever been allowed to live in my moms house and ride in the cab with me. rushing to get him out of the woods the day that boar got him. Everything me and that pup ever been through. This picture sums it up.
he's gone but damn sure not forgotten.
pup from Monty were calling Toddy.
pup we named lady big in honor of my old gyp Lady belle who we lost not to long ago.
and the brother to toddy, we call him joker.
panchos half sister Tipsy.
the 3rd half sister who we haven't named quite yet..... their brother damn sure left them some big shoes to fill. One last Time. Rest easy buddy, hang one up there with the rest of the gang.

Monty, were damn sure gonna give them their fair chance, so far I like toddy the best. She's got a lot of spunk. Was burning my moms little heeler mix ass up running around the yard yesterday. She'd chase him down and nip him in the ass lmao. What's really eating me up right now, is the fact that a good buddy whose been hunting for a while, said his best dog died a few years back and the story line was about the same for her. Got cut up, 2 weeks or so went by and she was looking good. Then he noticed it looked like she was having trouble breathing one night(same exact thing happened yesterday, I almost would have swore pancho was having a seizure about 4:00) but I walked over to him and petted on him and he seemed to kinda snap out of it. So I was like well I guess he's alright. So I left the house.... 5:15-5:30ish my younger brother starts blowing up my phone and I ignored it a few times then finally answered and he's screaming at me to get home Now, pancho is dead..... I walked in the house to find my brother trying to do cpr on my dog, that's scene will do something evil to you. That damn mutt was loved by everybody who ever met him. I can't believe I'm my frustration I didn't take him to the vet after wards to get him tested or see if they could get some straws off of him before I buried him.

Just got off the phone With Dr.Sklar of Halletsville veterinary hospital, he did the surgery on pancho. He says it sound like he had a small blood clot dislodge and get stuck in his brain. And that's when I noticed him acting funny, and then there was probably another larger clot that formed and he died of a stroke... ultimately it sounds like that hog hit him really really hard and bruised too much stuff inside for him to pull through.

Judge, I sure did. Can't thank Monty and Carlton enough. I owe them both a hunt and I sure hope they take me up on it.

Sorry for your loss... unfortunately that's part of what we do. It's tough to lose a good one, but sounds like you have some good young prospects to keep you going.

Mike, it's an incurred risk and I know that. Just seems to me it's gotta be a little different feeling when it happens right there in the woods rather than 2 weeks after the fact. I'm learning very quickly to enjoy the time I have with each dog as much as possible cause forever just isn't a reality in this game. As for these pups, we're gonna start working on handle with them. Loading, unloading, recall, knowing their name. Stuff like that. Give it a few months and then toss them in the woods and see what they come up with. Just sucks with pancho cause Carlton, Chris, Monty, and my buddy Tim can tell you for the last 2 weeks all I talked about was pancho staying alive long enough for me to breed him to his half sister. Someone had other plans. We're gonna go Saturday, see if we can put it to that boar that got my boy 2 weeks ago.
