Anyone here use a bull horn to call your dogs back? I remember my daddy blew one when he feed his beagles but would like to hear how others have done it and how effective it is.

I try to never call my dogs back, but, when I absolutely have to I do use a horn I carved myself. I blow it around the house once a week or so mostly just to annoy my neighbors.  When I do use it in the woods it works about the same as screaming and hollerin, not super well. They do understand what I want. How quickly they return depends on the situation |

call them to you around a controlled environment...pet them up good...good to blow during feeding time...works good when calling in lost pups...or the big dogs after along hunt...

I use a horn pretty much all the time. To get them used to it I just blow before feeding (if I have new dogs)

I don't do it personally, but hunt with some old times that do. They start when they are pups at feeding time and it just comes natural from there on.

We blow the horn at feeding. It don't take much and they get used to it. My hunting buddies and I still hunt horseback a lot and we tote our horns in saddlebag. I still use the scrub cow horn my great grandpa used.

I just do what we call hoop'n m in .......I can hoop as loud or louder than a horn ....... when you start hoop'm watch your garmin if the dogs starts com'n to you don't stop hoop'n til he gets to you then pet and load ........ few times mine pick it up perty quick .. you will notice after they get used to it if the garmin shows sit or point they listening hoop and they'll start to you again ... I can hoop mine in from 800 yards perty easy .....

Funny reading this, i have train horn on my truck and its worked twice now getting dogs that had lost comunication to come back

Amazon, Ebay or the horn store website. Careful tho... When you buy one and realize different horns have different ranges and tones, youll start collecting them. I just ordered 2 more today. Ive ben blowing at feeding time myself and will start trying it out in the woods as soon as this damn turnaround is over. Only 21 days of 7-12's left lol. Ill post pics of mine soon. I also have a blank I found on a west texas hunt from an Audad I need to start whittling on
