I just subscribe to the belief that whatever you put up with, you'll end up with. Wasn't trying to be rude at all.

Well said T-Bob, that's the truth in EVERYTHING you do, not just dogs!

The Dog's from the right stock and is the best I've seen.I hunt around a pile of alligators or highways lost two to being hit in the last year.I don't tolerate a sub par dog nor would I ever breed a dog that I don't feel is proven and the best dog I can breed.Waiting till she's 3 would drastically slow down the already slow process of rebuilding a yard of new stock and drastically increase the odds of never achieving my goal.

putting the hollie pup up in my opinion is the right thing to do...the only picture I saw of her made me want one just like her...we can wait and breed a new generation every five years and in twenty years will have improved 4 generations...or as soon as we know that we have a top up and coming young dog that we can breed at 1.5 years and at 8 to 10 years we can have a great line of dogs and the gene pool has been cleaned up to an acceptable level...we only live once and time is not on our side...that is about how I see it...this way we will also have 3 or 4 generations in the yard that are young enough to hunt or breed if needed.

I like a 3rd generation male breeding 4th and 5th generation females...that is my opinion on breeding a better line of dogs...at my age I follow a different plan...

Reuben I was talking with Jimmy Texas Hog Dog's and he was telling me about the importance of a back cross in a line and how by doing so you can bring all the old genes and traits back to the front so keeping several generations is important if possible.

That gyp is going to produce what she is going to produce.  No matter if she is 12 months old are 12 years old and6 No matter how good a dog is are how bad a dog is performace wise. Time has nothing to do with what she are he is going to produce.

Breed away buddy! At the end of the day, you're the only one that's feeding! Like I said before, is she worth an entire future of dogs? Or a couple 20 head of hogs this year..

I like to breed young, not wait until they are 5-6 yrs old because no matter how many years you hunt one before breeding they are not "proven" producers until bred and pups from them used, so here a young dog sayyyy 1-2 yrs old and showing to have and use all the tools in a better than average fashion will likely be bred if pups are needed. I have saw some really good ones from a long line of really good ones that just did not produce well and if you have waited until they are considerably older "with all your eggs in that one basket" you could wind up without. Trying to breed and maintain a line of dogs we don't want to wind up without.
As long as they are physically able to go I never put one up permanently just for breeding purposes, I just won't feed one I can't use for fear of something happening to them.
