I am looking into buying a side x side. Looking for a midsize. Either a Honda pioneer 700 or the Polaris 570. Looking for pros & cons. I do go thru a lot of water at times so was leaning towards a shaft driven motor which Honda has. What are your experiences. Thanks in advance.

If u want midsized buy the honda 500, it has a true low gear. Badass little machines, if i didnt need room for 3 that is the one i would bought

I have a Honda four wheeler, but the guys I hunt with most often have both the Honda Big Reds, and the other guys both have the Polaris Rangers. All four about the same year models roughly. Those Big Reds don't give 1/4 of the trouble that the Polaris have given the other guys. All of these are in and out of the water and mud a bunch down here. Seems like the Polaris front bearings won't hold up for some reason. One is stock and the other has a little lift on it. Both of them have bearing issues. Other minor issues also. The worst problem the other guys have had w the Big Reds is that it doesn't want to turn over some times. The web says it the size of the battery wiring, but I don't know. Both of them have done the same thing. That really is the only thing that has gone wrong with the Honda's. I will definitely be getting a Honda when the time comes. Probably the Pioneer 700 because of the three people front seat.

I looked at the Honda Pioneer 700, but didn't like the fact that it did not have a "low range". bought the 1000, and really like it.

Had my pioneer since they have come out and no problems so far I bought a Polaris in 2012 and it was terrible

I have a 2014 Polaris Ranger 900 I use it every day and have had 27" mud tires on it since day one I have had it in bad stuff high water lots of mud it's an beast eats up the mud last hunt I had 6 dogs 4 kids and 3 adults on it but man its a lot of maintenance so far I've replaced rear bearings one drive shafts one belt it needs front bearings new u joints in the prop shafts and now the gear box for the power steering is wore out got a lot of slop in it I believe it would benifit with a primary clutch rebuild I think next time I'm gonna look closer at the Pioneer and the new mule. I don't know what's up with the wheel bearing hope I get more life out of the aftermarket ones but it will fly and sling the mud and rides like a dream maybe I ride it too hard but heck I got it to use. Buddy of mine has an old pioneer don't know the year but most of the plastics tore off no brakes been sunk 2x still rolling I don't care for the belt on the Ranger but I haven't seen a transmission on a ranger go out I would like to know how dependable that pioneer transmission is would much rather change a few belts over a new transmission.

I have an old Mule that I used hard for several years and all it ever needed was a carburetor last year. It's not the fastest or the smoothest but it's the toughest. You can lock in the posi-track and put in 4 wheel low and it will get you through some bad stuff. It will also haul a much heavyer load than the Rangers I've seen.

Cajun, dont rule out the yamaha viking. I was die hard homda all my life, i didnt like the options on the pioneer 700 and they didnt have a 1000 i oiked. I took a chance on the viking 700 and ive been nothing but extremely impressed with it. 10mths old and 1900 miles later it has been as solid as they come.

I'v pretty well ruled out the Polaris. I had the 800 4 wheeler & could not keep bearings in it & have heard the same on the Ranger. I did have a yamaha grizzly & it was as dependable as the Hondas I had. I will have to ck the Viking out. Thanks everybody, it is much appreciated.

Suzuki, yamaha, honda, kawasaki...motor cycles and 4 wheelers...have been reliable for me...but I have written off anything Polaris just by being around folks who use them...

A couple of of my friends also have Rangers all wear out the bearings quick I hope the aftermarket ones hold up better my buddy who has the old Pioneer I spoke of bought a Ranger 900 this year his dad has the Pioneer 1000 and he said the Pioneer is kind of loud in the cab I don't know my 900 is quiet I had a 400 a few years ago and I think the mid size has a little more engine noise because the engines under the seat. The Pioneer 1000 is about 300lb heavier than the Ranger 900 but has a bit more ground clearance seems to be a solid machine does anyone have one of the new mules?
