I give my young pups heads to chew on. I believe that when done starting at around 12 weeks of age it helps program the brain for the intended quarry. That coupled with a small hog in a pen that they can bay from the outside for 1/2 a day a few times a week. These two things program the brain of the developing pup. I never really have any trash breaking to do and they are focused and looking for "hogs" on the first day in the field.

thanks for spelling it out...  Cool

I know this is an old thread but it's got some good information so I figured I would continue it instead of starting a new topic...

I've seen some mixed things as far as feeding hog to dogs, so this is my question....
Are some of you feeding your dogs raw pig without doing anything to it? Or is everyone here freezing it? Because I've heard that it's dangerous to feed it without freezing it. But then some of you are saying you feed the organs and the whole head. Are you freezing those as well before giving them to your dogs? I'm just wanting some clarification because I want to start supplementing dog food with hog meat.

So a raw head that has not been frozen won't get them sick? I'm just concerned about the risk of parasites. I've heard of dogs occasionally dying because of eating a pig that was fresh killed and just thrown to them, so I'm trying to take the necessary precautions

hasn't hurt mine ......raw meat is natural food for dogs ...... to much grease on a hungry dog will make  some sick .......   mine  does real good on the heads  ... you can freeze it if  it makes  you feel better about feeding it ....

I'm a part time butcher I feed my dogs all the trimmings and bones off pork both tame or wild and beef. Anyway I can make my feed bill cheaper and it sure helps supplement the dog food. I've never had a problem feeding raw. And a dog that catches he's own groceries is cheaper to keep then one that doesn't

Thanks for the input, I'll definitely try it out and see how the dogs do on it. Is there anything on a pig I should avoid feeding them?
