Hi, my name is Craig Malisow, and I'm a reporter with the Houston Press (houstonpress.com). I'm working on a story about hog-baying competitions in Texas, and I'd love input from any folks who compete in these events. Just trying to get a better understanding, as well as get reactions to criticism against the sport. If you're interested, please write or call, or just post your thoughts here. Thank you very much.

Damn, nothing is safe from prying media personnel.
How do we know you post an acurate report of these event, especially if it doesnt fit a specific narrative?

Well, it's not a pro-baying piece, if that's what you're unsure about. Whether you agree with critics or not, there is a debate over the practice, and the story will touch on that debate. It's obviously easy to get quotes/input from the critics, but I think it would be helpful for readers to hear directly from competitors, in order to get a better understanding.

I completely understand if anyone is skeptical and doesn't want to talk. But it would be irresponsible to do this or any other story without reaching out to people at the center of it, so that if there are people who want to talk and have their voice heard, they have an opportunity.

From what I have gleaned from the Jagd terrier folks this guy has been fishing for someone to take the bay pen side but the story will not be balanced. They have already shown themselves to  be  against it.Speak to him at you own risk.

Well, it's not a pro-baying piece,

Well, it's not a pro-baying piece, ]

that says it all right there...

are you one of those animal rights activist who is against hunting and fishing...and a tree hugging environmentalist who will hope to buy 10 acres of prime river bottom land one day, and then clear it and build a beautiful brick home on it?  and once settled in you cozy home you put out a hummingbird feeder and you feel good about yourself because you have done something good to help out the hummingbirds...

so when you cleared those ten acres you committed the ultimate insult to mother nature...maybe you need to take a look at your own back yard and work on the real issues...

I haven't been to a bay pen contest in many years but they strict rules that must be followed for all involved...

the problem with your type of folks is that you are trying your best to impose your beliefs and will on law abiding citizens who do not agree with your beliefs...

Same bs when they stopped our hound hunting of of bears in california. Put in the public libtard faces and they react. Hunters ,sportsmen ,dogmen and women alike dont stand a chance against the public opinion if its opposes yours.....at least here in libtard california. Press man why don't you go one and your questions there, you will get your response you want. Ca has maid most law biding houndsmen criminals because they don't like the sport.

Well, if it's not a PRO baying piece, that leaves us to assume its a CON baying piece... why don't you try something unique, like being fair, objective and just write  a piece reporting the FACTS and let people  make their own minds up about  bay pens, without  a slant, ,,,, and you wonder why newspapers and nightly news are going down the crapper,,, reporters are out of touch with mainstream America, they only write for themselves , their peers, and liberal, handwringing, pantywaist, busybodies. Sad what the press is now, I respect PRAVDA more, at least they don't try to fool you that they are "fair and balanced".

Well news dude, i think you have your andwer. If you dont want to post a fair, accurate and impartial news piece, then you are barking up the wrong tree. If you decide you want to fair and accurate in your story, then you have come to a site with a lot of knowledge, its just we know how the news reoprts things nowadays and, well, trust and honesty is a big factor in the dislike of news folks. You may not be on the same limb as the communist news network, aka: cnn, but until proven otherwise, you are in the same tree.

No win situation.

Proponents capable of actually expressing themselves and representing the bay dog world aren't willing to see their words twisted in what they feel will no doubt be a bit piece and fuel for the anti hunting crowd.

This of course leaves the paper boy to write his piece after mining this site and others for whatever posts he can find that help paint the "pro" crowd as little more than unsophisticated, barbaric, inhumane, backwoods trash that the world needs to bring up to modern day suburban standards.

We should all be eating a plant diet and if the pigs are allowed to roam the countryside, completely unchecked while destroying  those plants before they make it to market...well, then we simply accept defeat at the hands of our swine overlords and assume our position somewhere much lower down the food chain.
