like night and day !!! once you go offshore , you'll never want to work on land again !! awesome food and great house keeping !! no more back breaking .... all the roughnecks do is dope the pipe , when trippin pipe.... the only thing that sucks to me is they m o v e S L O W lol other then that it's heaven !! |

I had a friend that would work summers on one of those after he turned 18 two weeks on and two weeks off. He said it sucked but he made nearly as much in two weeks as I could make in a summer so I guess it is worth it....it isn't for me. I would not like being out there and not being able to leave if you need to.

Can you fish while you're out there? on the Monarch you can't , but on some you can .... it depends on the Company ... |

ya it takes some getting uesed of .... i made 157hrs. and i only worked 24hrs. .... i guess if your young and single with alot to do , this would be the job for you , but all i do is hunt and work !! lol if work picks up more then this i might QUIT .... lol |

Man that looks alot different than the Gas drilling around here. I worked on a Kelly rig For those who know real Rough Neckin'! Then I went to be a puff neck on a new rig that had a ST-80 that spun up and torqued it up. How long does it take for a Bit trip?

when we were out there , they had something like 75 people ..... and yes the rig never shuts down , it run 24/7/365 rain or shine .. |

REAL ROUGH NECKIN lol i hear ya !! i started on a four line work over truck rig ... we would round trip 12,000 ft. in 4 hrs.. on the Monarch it take them 36hrs. to trip 16,000 ft. ONE WAY  not all of our jobs are offshore , we do hit the land rig some time ... i think next mth. we have a job in Pa. ... |

HMM MAYBE I NEED TO GO OUT THERE ! i'll make 193hrs. for this check at $20.00 for 80 hrs. and $30.00 for 113hrs. not bad for 12hrs. of work ... but this work is up and down ... the past three mths. i cashed $500.00 checks week after week .. it's just like any other job out there .... |

Seems like a distant bad dream now.... I was offshore for 3 wks or more at a time... it's definitely hard on the soul.
The old timers warned me... "get out while you can"....they seemed pretty earnest. The money is like a drug they said... once you get used to it, it's hard to step away.... Divorce was the norm out there... as was a lot of sad guys.
I think the fish you were talking about was the Barracuda... they get real big on the rigs.
