Couldn't find anyone to go with me so went to the lease by myself last March. After about three hours I finally ran across a good track, and I do mean Goodun. Turned out Deacon, Cadi, and their sons Preacher and Bishop. They trailed out about 375 yards from the road, stood him up in his bed and never got more than 25 yards from it. By the time I got my bulldog and walked in downwind they had been baying 15 or 20 minutes. I kept slipping closer and closer untill I could see the barr. When I realized just how big he was, I knew, at 62 years old I wasn't going to be able to throw this one by myself. Sooooo long story short I shot him between the eyes from about 20 feet. I couldn't believe my eyes when I walked up on him. He was as big around as a 55 gallon drum laying there. Plus I had Deacon and Preacher cut all to hell and back. Call the wife, told her to meet me at the lease gate and take the dogs to the vet. Finally got his big ass drug out and called Mike Cauley for some help. Mike came out and drug him to his house and loaded him on his truck to take to the butcher. I have caught one boar that had a larger frame but not this big and fat. Come to find out, 2 years previously Mike Cauley, Andy Becker and myself caught and barred this hog when he was about 275 lbs. I and several men estimated him at 500 lbs. for what that's worth. I lost the neck and right shoulder due to bullet damage, did not add any fat or meat to the sausage and still picked up 235 lbs of great sausage. Oh yeah, Deacon and Preacher cost me about $1600 at my vet. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk

After looking at him, based on my calculations I would put him right at 468 pounds and 3 ounces.
Great job, and hell of a hog!!!

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

JDT, yes he had big teeth. They were big around as my thumb and 2 1/2 inches long . Sharp as a razor. Preacher was cut from behind his ribcage all the way to his front end. Deacon was cut in his neck. I thought Deacon was cut down and dead but could still hear him baying. Apparently when the Barr grabbed him by the neck his tracking collar got cut off of him. When I looked at Deacon's neck I realized just how lucky he was. There were two bald spots on the top of his neck where the whetters were and when I pulled the skin back to see the damage you could see Deacon's jugular vein throbbing. Maybe I should call him Lucky now. Preacher was cut bad, but was still baying when I shot the barr. As soon as I killed him Preacher came to me and then disappeared. I could see he was headed to the bike on my Garmin. When I got back to the bike Preacher was sitting on the seat of the bike. It was like he was telling me (come on dad, let's go see Dr. Liz)
