Made the trip up To West, Texas with my good buddy Justin to go meet his old running buddies back home and make a hunt. Hunting a good sized place outside of Malone, Tx and it was a heck of a morning. Caught 8 good hogs and 1 shoat. 5 good boars over 150. I think there was 5 of us who brung dogs and everyone had brought 2 or 3. Rotated dogs in and out. Got a bunch of puppies a lot of good exposure. Was a heck of a time.

Looks like a good day, Slim.
It was a heck of a day. Most hogs I've ever caught in one hunt and there's not a better group of guys I could have done it with. It was a team effort by all, dogs and hands. Not one time did someone say "oh that was my dog that struck" or anything like that. When my buddy Justin's dog got cut up and bowed out on the backside of a big lake at the end of the hunt. Everyone was offering to either swim across to get him or walk the mile around to carry him out. While some of us worked on getting to the dog the others went back and started dragging tied hogs. It was just a darn good time everyway you cut it.

That’s great Slim, good friends and good hunting partners are hard to come by. I’m fortunate to have several that are both. Used to hunt with a fellow that his dog struck every hog, even when they never got out from under the horses !! Don’t hunt with him much anymore. I try to be honest about my dogs performance and don’t put another mans dog down. Even when I’d pull their collars and leave them for hog bait. I have most of my buddies dogs on my garmin, as well as they have mine. Everyone knows what’s happening. We went yesterday and killed 12. They wouldn’t have weighed 150 all together. Finally pulled all the dogs and tried to leave some for seed. Best of luck to you.

I’ve hunted with a slough of different people over the years and can count barely a handful that are like the fellows you described and most of them are who I hunt with now, we still rib each other a good bit but never get outa hand with it and don’t ever have any drama, hurt feelings or such , everybody pitches in when it’s needed without ever having to ask anyone repeatedly no matter the task or whose dogs did what, I get dang near as much enjoyment watching my buddy’s dogs perform well as I do my own and will be the first to critique and criticize my own dogs shortcomings before I will anyone else’s, consider it a blessing to be able to hunt with such a group because there are a lot of snakes in the grass in this game, more so than good groups of guys, nothing much can beat a good time with great folks and good dogs...

Yessir you guys are right. I use to hunt with different people pretty often when I first started. Now that I have my own idea of what a hog dog is and the ability to both make one and hunt solo. I don't go with many other people very often at all that own dogs. Couple friends from high school who like going with me and Justin who him and I have become almost like brothers over the last year that I've known him. Every once in a while I'll travel an hour or 2 to go out with a friend if I haven't been getting around hogs here. It's always a decent time but I couldn't do it real often

I don’t care to hunt with a lot of folks. I usually do much better on my own. Good friends are hard to come by even then they will talk smack about you never fails good hunting buddy’s are harder to find then good dogs

Heard that judge. Less people who know what I got going on over here. The better. Hell I wish nobody in this town even knew I hog hunted besides the few landowners I hunt for.
