Got word from a boy I know of a good group of hogs being seen real regularly coming out of some cut grain headed into a big bottom every morning. Took me a week but I got a hold of the right people finally. Land manager for the cattleman who owns the place I figured they were in had a very bad taste in his mouth about hog dogs when I talked to him so I offered to show him some no nonsense dogs rather than tell him. He reluctantly agreed to it and asked if I could meet him around lunch. I agreed knowing it was gonna be hot but I knew the dogs were in good enough shape and as long as I was smart about it we should be okay. I met Mr.Frankie and we started around the place, went to the only tank on the place where some cowdogs had killed some shoats 2 weeks prior and no dice. Check 3 feeders on the back side, all running, dogs did nothing. We make the place and can’t pull anything up, mr Frankie  had to go set up some water troughs on neighbors fence. I had permission from this neighbor as well to hunt so I went, shook the mans hand and told him I was gonna head down to the creek bottom while Frankie worked on water troughs. Not 15 minutes after we parted ways and no more than 200 yards from Frankie’s first feeder we checked, sketch loco and rocky smoke a track and bay the entire sounder where they laid at 2 o clock in the afternoon. 95 degrees, wind blowing 15-18 and we’re hog hunting. Group goes to break, i shoot a shoat at my feet and bust a good boar, dropped his back end for a minute but he ended up packing it off bleeding pretty good but I never went and followed the blood trail, being that hot I wasn’t worried about anything except staying on the dogs behinds. Sketch rolls over 300 and bays the opposite way from where most of the hogs went. Get in there and loco and rocky had shown up by now, they got one shoat caught and rocky is bayed about 10 yards away on another. Get them killed, find the dogs some water, they cool off and roll again, they go 500 back where we come from, loco catches out on a smaller hog and sketch and rocky bay a hog up in some nasty locust trees. Kill them, the dogs roll over and line out together, 150 yards and bay the group again. Hogs break and I guess they took 2 hogs out of there, maybe 30-45 minutes or so they’re replying back and forth up and down this dry creek bed running these hogs. Finally they quit running and are hanging out barking every few minutes in this same spot, I make it over there and dogs are just kinda roaming around outside of bad briar thicket, I see some movement and realize they got 2 hogs laid in there, look closer and the one nearest to me was laid on his side, one in the back was on his belly looking at me, shot the one in the back and the front one never moved, best I could figure is he got to hot running and died. Ended up killing 7 or 8 I believe, lack of water made it unsafe to keep going. Them hogs ain’t going anywhere 3 running feeders and the only spot of water in that area for more than a mile in any direction. I have to give it to the 3 mutts I carried, I do not feed the best by any means but everything I got makes up for their flaws with heart, and they sure enough showed it this afternoon. Needless to say landowners were happy and gave me freedom to roam as I please.
last 2 hogs they bayed together one was alive one was not

Thanks guys. This was a big break for me as a few months ago I lost access to most of the country I had over some bs drama I took no part in. This opened the door to a lot of opportunity and country, hopefully I’ll catch a few more breaks and be back to catching more than ever

Yessir. I own a bulldog and never use her. It’s just more laid back and enjoyable for me and I like getting to watch my curs work without worrying about a bulldog or having to wrestle with a hog. The curs will catch if I pair them right. Put the wrong 2 out together and I’ll end up caught out on hogs I don’t need to be caught out on

went back to same bottom this morning and killed 8. In the picture is the old man loco and my brindle pride and joy sketch. Gonna see if we can get some pups before one of them puts themselves in a bind.
