Im sure you have been asked before,,,, But  why do u think that ur boar hogs carry good teeth as compared to other mature boars that are caught in other areas...

right... imo its got to be the food/nutrients in their diet but idk

what part of the country are you in LBH? terrain looks rugged and rocky with more elevation than north/east texas

That is a fine boar. Hope the dogs recover. My guess would be, you hunt in a area that does not get a lot of pressure & the boars get a chance to grow & mature, thus growing good teeth.

I think that coupled with some good genetics and a good food source spells success, me and my buddy billy have had this same discussion about JPs hogs, one of the main areas we hunt has numerous unlimited food sources for hogs, between the silage pits, folks feeding beef cattle, dairy farms, and several farmers have the contracts to get all the scrap grains and sweepings from the grain elevators on the river in the West Bank so the hogs have a year round steady good food source through these hills and we see and catch several nice big bodied boars every year but just not the huge teeth hardly anymore, coupled with the nonstop pressure that these hogs get put on them, Cajun your probably familiar with this area, all around Rob Hobgoods place old farm and surrounding areas...

I’d have to make a rug out of that purdy sucker!!!

I believe it’s all in the genetics out there... the only thing I’ve seen for them to eat is rocks, cedar and mountain laurel haha. Most people wouldn’t even think hogs would live in that country just by looking at it.

Same thing I say about some of the marsh hogs I’ve caught, how in the world they get that big off the land out there...

Goose, i have hunted up by Hobgoods a good bit but it has been awhile. Those hogs have much more to eat then the marsh hogs and get way bigger. A truely big marsh hog would go around 250 with most averaging 200-225. Age plus genetics like Mike said is what puts the teeth on them.

Looks like you are back in the hills where that strong Russian blood is, super boar. I've hunted in some of that area with Pete and Johnny but we haven't bayed one of those studs when I was along.

Thanks guys

The hogs up here have the teeth because of the Russian genetics and so much private land that don’t get hunted . So they get big and old ! These boars are coming out of some really ruff country deep bluffy canyons that nobody wants to hunt except me !! There is not much for them to eat some of the ranches put corn out during deer season but that’s about it .

Old man you are running with a ruff crowd !! Haha
