Alright, for all the folks who own, use and abuse their side by sides let’s hear what brand, make or model works best in your area. The Yamaha rhino and started it out here on the west coast, but it seems technology has caught up with it. Polaris I’m guessing sells more units than most manufacturers, but I want to know what works in your part of the country.

I keep hearing about some manufacturers units catching on fire, belts going up in smoke etc.. A reinvented artic cat “Textron” is on the market now and looks promising, anybody have experience I’d like to hear about it. I understand people spend their hard earned cash on something and don’t want to think they bought a lemon and become cheerleaders by default. Let’s hear the unbiased, non sugar coated experiences from the guys/gals that use these things machines regularly.

3, 2, 1 go......

Honda Pioneer 700 is what I have. Mine has been there and done that with zero issues so far. I hunt hard off of it every weekend in the mud and swamps, I’ve even hauled it out west a few times and it did fine out in the rocks.

I did have a Yamaha Rhino 660 before that... that thing was a beast. I put it thru hell and back for many years. It just couldn’t handle hauling all of the weight from the dogs.

I wouldn’t even think about a Polaris... everyone I know that’s had have had nothing but problems with them.

I will second what Mike said. We are in too much water for belt driven machines so drive shaft is the way to go. I have had the Honda pioneer for only 2 years but so far I love it. Tough machine.

I’m not in a lot of water but have the mule pro fxt and it hasn’t been treated real well and is taking the abuse very well. Absolutely love it.

I have never owned a Polaris but everyone I have hunted with who owned one always had problems with them even when fairly new...

I have the pioneer 500 and love the size and capabilities of it.Goes absolutely everywhere nice and quiet but Honda's warranty program is b.s. The rearend went out on the machine I guess the vent hose got torn somewhere and water and sand got in the rearend.Anyway I pay for the honda gold warranty every month so I took it to my dealer they faught with honda for 4 months and honda said they wouldn't cover it because it wasn't a factory defect so I paid my payments for 4 months with no machine and then got charged $2400 to fix it.I have all my routine maintenance done on schedule so it wasn't something I let go just happened.Other than that this machine has been an absolute work horse.

I’ve got a full size Polaris ranger 800. I will say it’s a beast in the woods but I have had to change out bearings, ball joints and a-arm bushings due to staying in the mud and water chasing them ol pigs! I’ve also had to change a fuel pump once. On another note I’ve got hunting buddies who have rangers also that have had way more issues than I have. If I had to go buy one today I’d be looking real hard at the Honda Pioneer 1000! Good hunting buddy just bought and rigged one out so it’ll be out to the test soon!!!

LOL,,,, I sure wish I would've know this too before I bought mine two yrs. ago....  Talk about a piece of junk... Cant hold up to hunting every weekend ,, Ive had to change more parts on it that my old 2002 and 3 models Honda ranchers...  Save yall self some headache,,, I have come to the decision that Polaris is made for those who ride up and down gravel road and sight see,,, Not for hog doggers....

2013-2015 Polaris Ranger 500 Rebuilt front gearcase, Changed all wheel bearings 1x, Changed propshaft bearings 1x, Fuel pump 1x.
2015-2018 Polaris Ranger 900 Bearings in rack and pinion steering went out, Wheel bearings 2x, Propshaft bearings 1x, Front pinion bearings 1x, Fuel pump 1x, A-Arm bushings 1x.

When the Rangers 100% it will walk and talk but I keep an old 95 Big bear to keep from walking cause its constant work keeping them going wish I had tried something different before buying the 900 I dont ride mine easy haul 4-6 dogs and a couple people the big problem to me is the dang bearings.

My brother has a lil 2014 Honda 700 have replaced the starter 1x and now its in the shop for the brakes locking up but the rest of its tight he bought it second hand from and old guy that babied it.

Had another bud with a 700 Honda absolutely punished it drowned it out several times when he retired it the brakes didnt work it smoked a little and most of the plastic was tore off the sides he bought a 900 and has already blown the engine changed wheel bearings and 1 or 2 axles .

I think they gonna need a little TLC if you hogging off of them but but I like Honda my brothers getting power steering a 2" lift and 28" tires put on his lil 700 while its in the shop I am curious to see how it does if it works out I may do the same.

I thought all of them were about the same and they may be like I said I ride mine hard 90% mud water over loaded if I buy another I will look hard at the Hondas and Kawasakis.

Mine is a 06 500 ranger I got it off my buddy that was not kind to it at all the only reason I bought is he put a new motor in it at the bike shop. It has a 4 inch lift I have ran it hard as crap and always way over loaded. Broke the front axels so many times I know the part numbers. The Bearings been changed a lot starter few times and a belt every now and then. Everyone I have hunted with has a mule kabota gator or ranger the ranger being the best in my opinion. My buddy has a Honda it works great but he only hauls the cooler. If I could afford a new one probably would get a ranger

2015 ranger 570. My adopted rig since buddy went out of state for work. Factory everything, outside of just last week replacing the battery. We have made roads where there weren’t any and had water up to the seat. Routine maintenance? You mean a monthly power wash?

Kawasaki Mule Pro DXT diesel. We have ragged and bogged that bad boy well past it’s limits and it’s been a true Mule!! Even hung hammocks in the back for my kids to sleep while me and two of my best friends hunted all night

I purchased a 2017 Textron BadBoy Stampede 900 and used the fire out of it last year with basically no issues.  I did however purchase aftermarket springs from bandit utv suspension to tote my dogs and gear.
