I normally try to make it. Always plenty of vendors to check out plus Garmin normally has a couple reps there. Which from where I live it’s only lil over an hour drive. Saturday’s are normally the best of the event.

The cooking at the Cajun Camp is awesome, especially the roasted alligator. My family and I will be setting up a booth (Scoggins Family Farm) and we'll be selling bake goods, canned goods, and fresh cream line milk. oh and my wife's good ole sweet tea. We normally would go there for one day, but last year we set up the booth for all 5 days and had a really good time.....Heard lots of big hog stories...lol

Yea man I’ll look out for the Cajun tent.  Are there usually some decent fellas there selling pups or young dogs?

There will be alot of people selling dogs and pups...whether the people or the dogs are decent I do not know...A fellow tried to talk up a dog to a young friend that didn't know alot about hog dogs. My friend asked me if I thought it was a good deal, but it sounded a little off. So I asked another friend, with 30 plus years experience and knows hog dog language, to go talk to that fellow. He asked him if he could take him 10 minutes down the road a put him on some hogs, and then the story changed from a sure 'nough dog to a lightly started dog. Personally I'm also ways skeptical about buying dogs from people I don't know. But, having said all that they do have some fine looking dogs and pups up there....and even some interesting crosses!

Yea There are always are some good and not so good fellas at those sorts of things. I’ve got a decent set of dogs now, just looking to throw a little different blood in there to switch up a little. Looking for mostly loose bay dogs, gotta have the nose, drive, and grit to stop them.  Pups or hound dogs ideally. Been looking into bird crosses...  running mostly open dogs now, I’d like to aim towards little more closed mouth though.   I sure would appreciate a reference if anyone has one!  Shoot me a pm.   I spend lots of time and $$ on my dogs, so would rather not get someone else’s cull.

Never been to Uncle Earls but have always thought I would like to go but it is a 9hr drive one way.
So I have never been to but one or two bay competitions, don't have them around where I live and I had rather be in the woods anyway.
I don't really need any new gear so that really wouldn't be the reason for going however I wouldn't mind just looking.
My question is, is it worth the drive, 9hrs?

Just would like some of y'alls 2cents.

Chipolariverman,

It all depends on what you like, If you get bored watching dogs bay hogs in an arena and you're not very sociable, then it's probably not going to be worth your drive and time. But if you don't mind meeting and talking to new people with the same common interest (dogs and hogs) then you want run out of people to talk to.

If you do plan to go and want to stay a night or two, you should start calling the local hotels. I hear they book up fast. Camping is available at Uncle Earl's as well.

Brair Bay,

If you decided to go, Come talk to me at our booth. I know a few guys I would trust to buy puppies from....But I don't know if they will have any this year.

Thanks for the info Teaspoon.  I am still trying to decide if I want to make that ride or not.  If I make it I will look you up.
Not going to look for a dog or pup.  My kennels are full now basically and I am planning a breeding later in the year so I have to leave room for one or two of those pups.
