Well it's almost time for my ol' buddy WOW to be here. Looking forward to making a few hunts and catching up. This is picture, if it posts is him and Gus. Gus is out of my family of dogs. Proud of both these two. Heck of a scene too.

Thanks guys. Those two are pretty tight. Sure makes me feels good to put my dogs in the hands of people like Joel. There aren't a lot of them out there. Slim, we are gonna get together. The fellas here talk highly of you and Sketch.

Thanks for the kind words, this big boy has been so much more than a catch dog. He has helped raise several young dogs and will do about anything I ask him to. I am so looking forward to getting there. I am enjoying Arizona but this part of the trip is for my wife not me.

The first 2 are Vegas the second 2 are Hondo, then Moe on the lead, the black dog is Blake and the last one is Fancy. Joel's Gus dog is about 80lbs and so was the Hondo dog. Vegas was 85 or a little more depending on the time of year. Blake is the smallest at 75 lbs. and fancy is between 75 and 80.

Really nice bunch of catchdogs, although I know you can catch hogs with them and have had several I am not a fan of the little catchdogs.

All of my life I've wanted a male that looked like your hondo dog, lol, and out of the hundred or so bulldogs I've owned over the course of time, I've never owned one...

My wheels are rolling now, might have to line a date up with a female or two off the male were catching with right now....

I've ALWAYS been a smaller dog fan, I owned a big athletic male built like T-Dogs and he changed my mind, and it's been working a lot better for us just sending one catch dog and at the most well have 6 bay dogs on the ground and that's "dumping" the box, just this past Saturday we caught a sow about 150 and red went in and caught as usual but once the sow laid eyes on me she was dragging him around almost like he wasn't there and he's in the 50lb range....

These are some very goog catchdogs. I brought some dogs to Texas off J Crenshaw stock but I got one from T when I got the chance and I haven't looked back. The black and white gyp in the background of the last pic is going to be bred to Gus next heat. She is about 50# and an ADBA Champion who showed she could catch 2 years ago.

Goose, ol' Hondo was special. He had looks but he had brains too. He wasn't 2 yet when I was sitting in an open pasture with him. I let my buddy and my nephew go into the bay in a little set of woods. I knew the hogs would bust out of there when they sent the catch dog. Sure enough a stringer of hogs came across there. They were about 5 yards apart as they got close to us at about 60 or 70 yards. The last one was the biggest boar so I wanted him. I sent Hondo and naturally he took the angle on the lead hog. I called him off one by one until I thought he was looking at the big boar then let him go to it. He caught the hog right in front of the boar because it got scared and stopped for a second. As soon as the boar started to pass it, it took off again. So Hondo got to it first. It wasn't the hog I picked but it really wasn't Hondo's fault. Sure was fun to watch him handle so good. I loved that dog a bunch. He had the potential to be real close to Vegas.

I've owned one and seen one other in my life that had a handle like that and he was my old Geronimo dog, he sure wasn't the prettiest thing nor the absolute best catch dog, but he did a good enough job that he lived a long life and caught a pile of hogs and I can count on my hand the times he got a good cut,  knowing what I know now I would have been breeding the fire out of him but I never got a puppy out of him, my best friend has a daughter to him off his last litter and she's pushing 12 now, I'm crossing my fingers hoping I can get a successful mating off a male around the same age that goes back to be geronimo s a few different times on his top and bottom, right now it's just a hope and dream because I'm very skeptical of either one of them being fertile any longer...

Geronimo was sent to a bay once alongside two other CDs to a bay that belonged to a local "legend" and his legendary dogs, heck I had two pups in there myself, well ole mo came back to me a few minutes after being released and the bay still had never changed, Mr. Legend started talking smack that he wouldn't own a dog like that and that I should cull him and this and that, meanwhile the bay still hadn't changed so we walked in there to only discover they were in a pasture right behind a mans house and had 3 of the prettiest angus bull yearlings you could ask for bayed down and his 2 Bulldogs were caught on one getting the ever more life beat out of them by the other two, I was able to yell my two pups off immediately and was back across the fence before they ever got in the pasture, as I was passing the legend on his way in, the smart ass I am looked at him and repeated what he had said to me and sat back and watched the number 2 show commence, something eerily simmer happened like that with a horse but I helped that fella retrieve his dogs meanwhile getting the hell beat and bit out of me by the horse trying to break his bulldog, I can't tell you how many times I called him off going to a bay of the bay dogs caught out or just to prove someone wrong, I could walk him up to s tied hog and every single grain of his being would be tensed up and shaking vigorously and he would never lay a tooth on it or even whimper very loud unless I let him now once he caught his handle was completely gone until you tied him back and give him a little bit to calm down but he still never barked or went nuts even after being broke off the hog, he would be straining and pulling to get back at it but never went psyco...

I just snicker when I hear people say catch dogs are a dime a dozen, no bull and bully type dogs are a dime or dozen and man could hunt his entire life and never own one like what we have described and dogs of that mental capacity aren't heard of everyday...

If you ever have any extras out of a litter I'd LOVE to be able to buy one, from you or W.O.W...

Lol Goose I'll bet his butt was puckered for a bunch of reasons when he saw that. That's funny but it isn't lol. The one draw back to having dogs like that is that from then on it is hard not to expect it from the rest of them. I have been fortunate to have the family of dogs I do. They are always teaching me something new and that is fun. It's one of the biggest reasons I do this. I love to watch a good dog work.

What size dog was Geronimo?

Maybe 45-50 pounds if that and that's pushing it to the max, he was nothing but solid muscle because he ran and ran and ran non stop around his chain space everyday all day, I've seen bulldogs brought to a show that had just come out of an 8 week keep that weren't as in good condition as him, and he didn't have much head size to him nor was he the hardest biting dog I've seen but he was by far the smartest canine athlete I've ever owned, as good of a handle I had on him I can only recall ever putting a shocking collar on him once and that was bc we had a hot race going and I didn't want to take the chance of that one time he didn't listen but other than that a switch between his ears in his early days did him a lot of good, I had a heavy game bred male on the yard I had just picked up from a buddy out of a litter we raised and he got off his chain and killed Geronimo, one of the hardest and most costly lessons I ever learned about the quality of the snaps and swivels I use now...

That's a tough lesson for sure. I lost Hondo  in a similar way. The dog that caused it was a fraction of Hondo on Hondo's worst day. It was heart breaking. But a lesson learned for sure.
