Once upon a time, I had this ole dog, a crackerjack of a dog. Problem was when I got in an area where there were multiple hogs, I would hear him bark once about every 30 or 40 seconds in the same spot. I'd go to him and he would have a hole beat out where he was bouncing right left right left. I knew he was a good dog I just didn't realize how good. One day it happened and when I got there his nose was bleeding pretty good on one side. So I leashed him up and took him back to the truck. I stuck a piece of tape over that cut. He was bouncing wanting to go because he was winding hogs. So I let him go. He went and bayed hog after hog. It took a while for that cut to heal so I just kept putting tape over. He never got stuck on track again while I was putting tape over that side of his nose. Soon as I didn't he got hung up again. What I figured out was to keep one nostril taped when I hunted him because he was running 2 hogs at a time. When they split up he couldn't decide which track to abandon.

Must be a litter mate to one I got, have to calibrate him like a garmin and if you want to run deer you cock his tail once and if you want to run hogs you cock his tail twice lol...

Sounds like they might be litter mates goose. I hope you count better than I do. I was trying the tail cocking technique and lost count. Did it 3 times instead of 2 and wound up catching a 12 point boar!

I had a dog jump a deer one day and I knew he was trashing bc he was barking on track, ole boy that was with me asked me what he was running, serious as I could be I looked at him, being as he was the one who unsnapped him from the leash, and asked him how many times and which way he cocked the dogs tail before turning him loose, looking very puzzled he said in a sort of stutter, what are you talking about, I got kinda loud and said I thought I told y'all to calibrate the garmin before you turned the dogs loose and he said I did, I said no you fool the dogs name is garmin, by that time the other guy that was with us caught on to what was going on and played right along with it, it went on until I caught the dog and we told him what was up, he had coon hunted his entire life and said he was to afraid to ask what in the heck we were talking about bc he didn't know if I was serious and then said the thought was running through his mind all morning,"how in heck did goose train a dog to do that" but again was to embarrassed to speak up, we all got a long laugh out of it and it was actually the high light of the day because we had a dry run that day lol...

I went to a 200 acre high fence one time and had a pup get out the box when I dropped some old dogs and off he went I said number 2 this ain’t going to be good to my self well sure ass number 2
There he was trailing his ass off and kept going to one corner of the place then getting quit well the shocker wasn’t working for some reason and the land owner finally asked what is he doing I just came up with something quick off my head and said there prolly a hole in the fence and the hogs are getting out and he can’t figure out we’re so the last time he did it I told my buddy to go stand in the That hole so we can get one caught and no more then 5 min after he left the truck my old dogs set down on the other side of the place so I call my buddy and said to come on there bayed went over there and killed hogs the rest of the night hahahahaha land owner never said another word tell few days latter when he called and
Said we’re is this hole at I have walked this fence like 10 times cuz buddy of mine said he kept seeing hogs run right to him and he would scare them back the other way we still laugh about that I guess he finally found a hole never heard another thing about the fence
