My phone screen got cracked last night and I should have known better than to try to post with it  Grin

Anyhow Todd James and myself made a round friday morning and got in the hogs before we even left the truck, he turned his gyp and 2 pups loose from the truck while we were getting ready to go and they had a hog going before we even had our rubber boots on. While we were waiting on them to line it out we happened to look down the road and saw a good sized white sow and a couple shoats, Todd was wanting a couple sows to make sausage out of so he decided to try to shoot her instead of me sending one of my dogs to here knowing it was a 50/50 chance that the dog might end up on a shoat and not her.... well no sooner than he got his gun up she decided to step back into the woods. My jill dog saw her when she stepped out initially so I had a feeling she would get her pretty quick......what we didn't know was that there were a pile of 15-20lb shoats that never stepped out in the road and when I sent jill she ran right in the middle of em and had em going everywhere....... well one of em ended up zigging when it should have zagged and she caught it instead of the sow. we got it from her quick and skinned it out then put it in the cooler at the truck all while Todds dogs were still running the one they initially started.

Long story short his dogs ran this hog for over 2 hours before they ended up losing it due to being dumped off on another pack of sows and shoats. It was a good 180-200lb boar hog that we watched cross roads 4 different times but never could get it to sit down. His pups couldnt keep up with his lead bitch and were opening up quite a bit, I believe out of frustration........ Im pretty sure that had they not been opening that his lead bitch would have bayed the hog but who knows. anyhow we caught another shoat and called it a day.

Saturday morning we hunted the same property but in a different area. Todds 3 again started a hog and left with it, shortly after they started it and left out we happened to catch a BIG barr hog trying to slide out the back door, I had my 2 dogs in the buggy and sent them to him and the race was on, they got WAY out of pocket with this hog and unfortunently I had to tone them back in over an hour after they left on him due to them heading straight for the highway and me not having an easy way to get ahead of em and cut them off. I couldn't justify taking a chance on losing a dog/s over a hog, even though he was a stud. we ended up catching a 100ish lb boar with todds dogs and picked up and went to another area and dropped em again, again they started a hog and ended up running it right back to where we started that morning, by then it was after 11 and we both had other things we needed to get to so we decided to go call em out and call it a day, as we got close to his dogs we saw yet another big hog cross the road and so did my jill dog, todd slammed on the brakes and we threw jill down solo, 211yds later she was bayed solid. Todd grabbed his mini 30 and slid in to her. I heard the shot and pulled the buggy up to where he had gone in the woods. Come to find out it was a BIG sow that we saw cross, it wasn't 60yds off the road but we could barely budge her and there was no way to get the buggy to her so we gutted her and cut off her head then together we drug her out. She is the biggest sow I have caught in a long time. We screwed up and didn't get any pics of her until after she was gutted and headless lol.

Appreciate it fellas. I couldn't believe that it ended up being a sow, she stepped out 150yds from us and I would have bet anything she was a barr hog. When I walked in and Todd said sow I called bs til I saw her, she was a good one no doubt.

Good sow and good looking dogs. That lil girl reminds me of my daughters. They all hunted with me and were always picking flowers or looking for something. Nice job.

that is my daughter, Hannah. She isn't always into it but as long as the weather is nice she is usually down to tag along. I try my best not to pressure her into going, I want her to want to go. The older she gets the more she likes tagging along, she still isn't a fan of a squealing hog so most of the time I end up staying at the buggy with her while whoever else im hunting with goes to the bay but to be honest I don't mind it one bit!

She isn't the biggest hog hunter in the world but she does love the puppies!

My boy will be 6 in 5 days and has been going with me ever since he could stand up on his own, he's never liked loud sounds to begin with and doesn't like going in if he hears the hog squealing, he told me he only likes catching big hogs because they didn't squeal much lol...
