Wanna be a hog dogger? I had to ask myself that question the other day. The day got started off good we found some fresh tracks in the road and dumped two 3 year old cur dogs and a 6 month old pup out around 8ish. We ended up walking a little off the road and those pigs had it tore up pretty good and it looked as if they had been in there early early that morning. Two different dogs took the same tracks and both casted around 800 towards the north but neither could work it out. After about 40min they came back and I eased up 200 yards or so towards the south and saw more fresh sign but the dogs blew past that and went about .75 and bayed. I killed the four wheeler at about 300 grab the catch dog and 60 yards or so from the four wheeler he broke the leash and flew to the bay. I knew then this couldn't be good. I took off jogging behind him. Soon as he arrived I could hear ol kilo bringing the pain making that sow scream mercy, which eased my mind a little. Wasn't long after that everything was dead silent! When I arrived him and that sow ended up in a deep deep creek with no bottom to it. She managed to pin him up against the bank and went to work on him. Me not thinking I dove right in with my Bowie knife ready to shank her but came to my senses real fast after I noticed I was in some deep water where I couldn't stand up. Kilo was able to get another bite but not good enough for me to swim any closer. Luckily for some odd reason she decided to swim to the other side and when she did shame shame on her once she hit dry land. I learned two things on this day. Check your leashes and I better start packing! Still in all had to thank the good lord for sparing me and the dogs. Only damage done was kilo my catch dog had a cut ear.

we used to get in that situation at a place we hunted years ago, my buddy pretty much had it perfected, he would get in the water and swim to the hog, when the hog decided he was too close it would come to him and he would go underwater let the hog swim over him and the grab it by the back legs and more or less get onto its back...... We used to crack up watching him do it but he drowned many a hog that way......may not sound believable but if you knew the guy you wouldn't doubt it for a second, he is a nut and still a dang good friend of mine......his wife and kids have toned him down a bit but I bet he still has it in him
