This past monday marked opening day for the 2020 season here at the house.....naturally I decided to take off work and make a run monday morning........ Everything pretty much went downhill from there  Cheesy. i toted an older bitch i've got named jill and a little gyp that's coming up on 2 years old that I started hunting last year and a pup that's right at a year old. This was my pups first time ever in the woods and she far exceeded my expectations (pretty much the only positive note for the day lol). Anyhow, shortly after I got to the lease my buggy decided to start giving me hell completely out of the blue as it has been running like a top all year. Anyhow I decided that I would risk it and decided to drop the girls on a pipeline. It didn't take long before all 3 were out a couple hundred yards in the tall pines hunting, I glanced at the garmin and was surprised to see that all 3 of them were hunting separate ..... keep in mind that my pup has never been out of my yard much less out in the woods and she has absolutely no idea what she is doing BUT she was doing it  Cool. I sat on the buggy watching them the garmin and after about 10 minutes all hell broke loose, my pup was 130yds away and she let out a racket that dang near made me hit my head on the roof of the buggy..... all I heard was a hog huff/grunt and her yelp/squeal/squall and everything in between then it went silent, I watched on the garmin as my two other gyps beelined to her, they got there and bay for 10 seconds or so and them peeled out....the pup never moved. I watched em take the hog 800yds before they bayed. after listening to them for a few minutes I decided to ease over to where my pup was still showing treed fully expecting the worst, to my surprise when I got to her she was laying in hog bed playing with a few day old piglet and not hurt at all. I took the pig from her and walked back to the buggy, loaded her up and eased in closer to my other two who were still bayed. I let the pup back out and eased in to the bay, caught the sow, hollered my two older gyps off and managed to get a hand on my pup so that I could send the sow back on her way. Once that was done I got em loaded up and moved to another part of the lease and turned loose again (all while still dealing with the buggy acting up) and of course they struck and all 3 left the country...... 30 minutes and around 4 miles later I got around to them, eased in and caught another sow and repeated the whole process  Cheesy. I decided to call it good and quit testing my luck with the buggy so I started back to the truck, on the way back I couldn't help but try one more time, I turned em loose again and got a boar hog around 140 on his feet, he left out and they never did get him shut down so I called em out and headed to the house......

I figured while I had the day off I would go ahead and bring my 4wheelers in to get them serviced so that id have them to hunt off of while my buggy was in the shop.......got home, unloaded the dogs and the buggy, loaded the 4wheelers up and drove to the mechanic just to have him turn me away because he was too busy  . turned around and headed home, about 1/2 way to the house my truck decided to die on me and left me stuck on side of the road. At that point all I could do was laugh....... when it rains it pours. On one hand I couldn't complain, caught two hogs and got my pup some much needed woods time BUT that's about the only good thing I got out of it.

I didn't have a free hand to get any pictures and left my phone at the buggy both times lol, ya'll will have just have to take my word for it on the sows  Cheesy Cheesy

Lol good story Justin. That pup playing with that piglet had me laughing. Her brother hates them, I think because of when got ran over in the pen. That first mock hunt he was growling at the pig before he started baying and as soon as he had an open shot he caught out. Next few times with that same pig and the one slightly bigger he grabbed them as he saw them. Bout needed a break stick to get him off. The two I have aren’t getting out as far as your pup but I also don’t have anything that casts either to show them. Once I sweet talk you out of ole Willie or Flip I’ll cast them from the boat. If I try to do that now the older dogs look back at me like “c’mon, get your lazy butt up” haha. I’m looking forward to seeing how your male does as well. What is lil momma bred off of?

Anytime you catch a couple of hogs, it cannot be all bad. lol  As far as your pup, when they are bred right, they might not know what to hunt, but they will be hunting something.  She was just telling those pigs bedtime stories about what is going to happen when they grow up. lol

little momma and her sister gypsy are out of willie and flips great uncle and their aunt. their daddy is a dog named taz who is a littlermate to my old smoke dog that died years back. smoke was slicks dad and slick was willie and flips dad. their aunt is a daughter to another littermate to smoke and taz named crank that is also dead and gone. I am breeding lil momma to willie and more than likely gypsy to flip, those puppies will go back to a a dog named tex (smoke, taz and cranks dad) multiple times. it gets confusing lol. I believe i am starting to test my luck as tight as I have kept these dogs, this next generation will more than likely be the last that I make before I bring in a partial outcross. My buddy has a real nice male dog out of a cross I made a few years back, that dogs momma  is also a littermate to smoke, taz and crank but the male that I bred her to was completely unrelated to this family of dogs. He was a dog named camo that came from some great folks I met on this board years ago. I had a really nice male dog out of that cross named buddy that I got killed on a boar hog a couple years back and my buddy josh kept a pair as well that both turned out above average, he lost one in the woods as well but still has one....... im toying with the idea of breeding him to gypsy this round but Im still not sure which way im going to go with it.

You ain’t kidding, that’s a some confusing breeding to keep up with lol. When I come down to hunt again I’ll have to write it all out on paper just so I can keep up with it to know the background on my pups. If all goes well and the pups turn out I am planning on crossing those two together since their momma was an outcross for you. Outside of hunting ability, I really like their structure. They’re solid built with big bones, big feet, lots of lungs, and big solid heads. Their heads are a little longer than my other dogs which I like, more mouth size for catching. They’re a little bigger than my other dogs as well. They’re coat is a lot thicker and a little longer than my other dogs. If I cross those two I’m sure I’ll get a few of the reverse colored dogs and a few yellow. I’ll keep every single pup and cull down to the top couple. I guess that’s gonna be the say so on if they stay yellow or if the reverse color starts to phase the yellow out depending on which pups come out better. I also like that they don’t keep their nose to the ground, running heads up will hopefully make them track faster than my other cur.

And I remember seeing that camo dog, can’t remember who had him. I also remember you posting about buddy and slick before they were killed, always liked the looks of them
