Sunday afternoon me and my buddy decided we were gonna saddle horses and just ride. We do it on occasion of we arent hunting alot just to get dogs and horses out and put some miles on their feet. We have done this probably 20 times in the last year at the ranch. Weve known it's 2 big hogs in here(1000 acre high fence) but we've never even gotten around them until I did finally the other night and the Barr hog smoked our ass on the 3rd lap around the entire place. Anyway we set out and I had figured out the path these hogs walk so we made loops playing the wind and nothing. On the west side. We decide we're gonna go break some brush and ride through the middle of a big mesquite flat. This is where we always figured them hogs would stay, but as many times as we had been back there, never hit nothing. Now we don't have collars on dogs, no gun. We get into this flat and there's one feeder back there(these 2 hogs almost never shown up on camera at a feeder) and there's 2 little spots of rooting I knew were from last 2 days. We ride on and dogs are gone, I told Seth, sketch was kinda acting like she was wanting to line something out, well we get back to the almost far corner where there's a dried up mud hole and a wet weather creek bed and puppies to to chasing some deer, and pulled sketch off of what she was doing, and she couldn't have been more than 50-80 yards from finding this hog. But she come off to barks, we get pups back, have a coming to Jesus meeting with pearl. And send em back on and Pearl and Seth's pup beat sketch to the hog. Pups go to baying and Seth immediately "it's gotta be a cow" and at this point I'm kinda thinking that too. I'm just waiting on sketch to tell me. Then I hear that 3 chop locate of hers and I told him. It ain't no cow. We ride in and see it's the big boar they got and we decide we're gonna break him out and rope him, and cut him and send him back on his way. Well after about the 6th time we broke him over every bit of a mile. And missing our one real fair shot at him after the first time. Seth got the one chance to pitch a loop at him. Dogs are on this poor daddy didn't marry mommys nuts so bad he won't even run, hes just trotting. Seth lines him out coming down the back side of our old breeder deer pens and in a perfect stroke of bad luck sketch looped in front, and tried to sit him back up, Seth pitched his loop and the hog went left, smoked sketch down clean and cut back right, and caught a gear. Sketch tried him for about another 30 minutes, we watched him cross the road about 500 yards down the way, she was about 3 minutes behind him and just flat spent and bleeding pretty good when she came into the road. We called the dogs off and tipped are hat to the hog, he earned another day with his boys still in tact.

Video is of very first bay. My phone was all but dead so got none of the real excitement, but they were baying the hell out of him. Sketch got a pretty good window put in her shoulder. First time In over 2 years she’s been cut. She is pretty upset with me right now and plenty sore,  if she will be okay in a few weeks

Mike after the second time we broke that boar. He run behind the big tank by the entrance of our place. And bayed there. Seth had rode ahead of me as I was trying to get a gate closed, I turned and went to head down the fence to try and flank them and I saw a big hog cross a few hundred yards in front of me headed back the way that boar had come from, I hollered at Seth saying I just seen him he’s running. Seth come blowing around there and told me they was still bayed behind the tank... I watched that damn Barr come out of a pocket of brush I’ve sent dogs into a million times looking for him and he’s never been home. The one time we don’t start there, that’s where he’s laid. Lucky daddy didn't marry mommy
