I’m with some buddies from the upstate, we are down towards the low country for a 3 day trip on some WMA land. We hunted in the rain today and it was cold and of course wet, lol. Everything is flooded right now so we had to go through some water too. Finally managed to get on a small pig, then 2 minutes after we killed it they caught another a little bigger. Killed that one and they relayed on some piglets and killed them. We decided to come on out at that point, it was at 11am.

Well one of the guys dogs wouldn’t come out, he still had 2 out around 700yds. He went in to get them and they had killed more piglets and were caught on a little small pig. Got them back and finally left at 3:15. Back at the room now about to get some food and drinks, then relax and do it again in the morning. This time without the rain! Haha

Those snack size ones sure can bring a hunt to a halt. Glad you saw pork though. Hood luck tomorrow

Yesterday our group was on a roll. DNR shut down the one road that goes in to half the WMA. The people that were camping in that side got kicked out the first night, and one old man and his son refused to leave so game wardens made them take their trucks out and walk back in. The road that comes in is a gravel road with a creek flowing under it. Well it was knee deep above the gravel, flowing real swift, with a few washouts close to 4ft deep.

We decided to cross it to hunt that side since nobody else would. One of the guys with us had a little 12ft boat at the campground. They waded across the water and got the boat, and pushed it all the way to us on the trailer. About 2 miles each way. We then ferried dogs and people across it. Water was moving so quick that Daniel held on to the boat with a rope and was walking it across because all they had was paddles, trolling motor wasn’t working.

We got over there at 9am and most the group went to the right, me and Billy went left. We were gonna try to hit pigs from both sides. As luck would have it all the pigs were in the right. They killed 5 right off the bat. I got over to where they were 2 hours later and all my dogs burnt out to the left side of a road I had just turned on. They went .8 or .9 and split up and lost it. I got em all back and came back to that road. By the time I got there Daniels Rambo dog had been running a track and was running it back to where my dogs lit out. The group had pushed further away from me trying to keep up with races.

Billy had went back to get a dog and he got back to the road around same time as me. Him and his boy were gonna join the group, I said I’d try to pack my dogs in to Rambo since he was only 600yds from me and opening pretty good. As I got in the there to him he started pushing further away. I got in some good dry ground with fresh rooting so I decided to wait and see if my dogs did anything since Rambo was still cutting knots. As I’m waiting I see Shane’s pepper dog is running right for us opening up. She’s a damn good dog, real cold nosed and she lines em out quick. Apparently she had busted a group, because we had a little 60-65lb sow come by us trying to get away from Pepper who was 201 from us. My male pup Hopper stretched out like a grey hound and balled her up about 150yds later. Then my female pup Betsy and my RCD Punk latched on right after that. Some random dog that had found and started following me grabbed a leg lol.

I tried to get over to the rest of the guys after that and started get in deep water and said to hell with it. I went back to the truck, dogs were trying to wind pigs on the way back and I wouldn’t let em because I was aching and didn’t wanna get in more water after them. Between me and the other guys in my group we put a knife in 14, dogs killed an unknown number of piglets that we never put hands on. We were the only people hunting that side so everyone else on the other side was pushing them to us I believe. Game wardens ended up letting Barry drive across the road at the end of the day to get his utility trailer from the campsite. Water had gone down a little bit and it still came over his hood at the end. I got videos but can’t figure out how to post anything other than a picture

Cajun you’re right about the wet and cold part lol. I went waist deep a few times. Some of those boys were neck deep quite a few times and that water was chilly

The male is sure enough turning it on! The female needs more work, she’s just more shy and today she tries to join a race and got left behind after a while then was off by herself for most of the day and didn’t get to get on any pigs. Just bad luck that every time I’ve been getting on pigs she’s somewhere else. She has a lot of potential though, just a little more slow to start i think
