Austesus started a thread on here about boats that are good for shallow water and that gets me to thinking a little about them and then I did a research on them and other type of mud and duck boats...

Long story short I bought a complete rig and then took it to a custom fabricator who works out of his barn (low overhead)...hand a few items added to it and made it ready to hunt...

My son and I tried it yesterday and as soon as we turned crosswind and traveled about 150 yards the three strike dogs went wild...we turned to the bank and turned them out and in less than five minutes we heard a few raging growls here and there...turned out to be a 200+ boar hog...caught a 30 pound shoat as soon as we secured the boar...dogs rolled out in a jungle...finally got dogs back and one dog was cut pretty bad but will be ok..
My son and grandson went out this morning with two strike dogs for a quick hunt and the dogs winded another boar and caught it...took them about 500 yards to stop him but got it done...close to 150 on this one...I am pretty happy having this boat...will make a great shallow fishing boat for redfish and floundering as well...

Caught hogs where there used to not be any hogs back in 1980...

Well I hope you find the boat you will like...I am liking mine quite a bit...it is lightweight and fuel economy is great...the pontoons really helped in stabilizing sharp turns...

I tell ya what, hunting out of an airboat was the most fun I've had in a long time.......if I had the money i would buy myself one in a heartbeat.

I’ve really enjoyed hunting from my buddies boats here lately. Compared to my usual walk hunting it’s a lot more fun and fast paced to be able to check a spot then pick up and move compared to planning a route and walking all day or night.

I've seen 3 people with 5 or 6 dogs in a 14 ft flat with a 25 hp on it. They were a little crowded but determined. lol

I’ve been on a 14ft. X 60” homemade aluminum boat with center console and 60 horse outboard...3 men on board and 5 dogs...

I bought mine a little over a month ago and been on it twice twice since I had it modified for hog hunting...I added rails and plenty of places to tie dog...also added pontoons for better floating on sharp turns...
It’s a 1748 with a 37 horse Boss Drive mud motor...I like that it is lightweight and easy to handle...I only been with my son but I am sure 3 men and 5 dogs won’t be a problem...

Smallest I’ve hunted out of is my buddy’s 12ft Jon boat, either 36 or 38 wide with a 25hp on the back. We did 6 dogs and 2 guys. Could probably add another. My other buddy has a 1656 with a 40hp on the back and 4 dogs with 3 had plenty of room

That’s common sight around here in February lol, I’ve been one of those guys lol, some guys even tried that same scenario but with a 40 mercury, and thought they would be good to go with a 350 rancher on the bow, of all things they lost and  couldn’t retrieve it was the 4 wheeler when they capsized...

Well my reply got cut off. The rest of it was about how I used a kayak once to retrieve a dog and it was a horrible experience. With that being said there is a “kayak” that i actually really want called the Wavewalk, their biggest model can take a 10hp outboard, and is nearly impossible to flip with great ergonomic. At 98lbs it’s still easily paddled, and has a great high seat that you straddle. I really want to get one and make the front deck bigger for 2-3 dogs for hunting in swampy areas like where I had to retrieve that dog

Never hunted out of a kayak but we used to hunt out of pirogues. We would let the dogs run the banks and we would try to keep up. Played hell trying to keep the bulldog still when he heard a bay.
