That’s not correct ... I have had dogs bit while baying or caught on a hog where there not even paying attention about a snake. Also while there running wide open Thru the brush and step on a snake while chasing a hog. I snake break mine and still get them bit . I had a cat treed one time and a snake curled up under the tree got 3 dogs before they realized what was happening ! I carry dex with me and powdered alum. My grandad always told me to make a paste with powdered alum and water when a dog gets bit and it will not swell up as bad . I’ve done it a lot and it works . If a dog is hot and gets bit in the body it’s usually not good . I’ve had a bunch get bit in the head and lower legs and all made a full recovery .
