Yessir. The plan has always been to breed a outcross gyp back to my side to one of the early males. it just hasn’t timed out to work yet. Got to keep usable numbers around for time being.

Are you saying there isn’t a guarantee raising good dogs? Lol, you are exactly right though. I don’t gamble because I figure I wouldn’t be very good at it. The breedings I would’ve bet some pretty big money on were the biggest failures in my mind. The Oldman and I just had a conversation about this. So many variables.

The only guarantee I’ve found in my short time, is for better or worse, it never goes exactly as you draw it up. And it’s why I think there’s a lot of pride to be had in consistently producing good dogs. It’s hard.

Walked out the house at 5 am to load a few dogs. Misty didn’t come greet me so I knew what that meant. DOMINO! 5 seemingly healthy leopard pups.
I’ve been gone all day but she seemed emptied out with the 5. If we can wean them all it’s just enough to take care of me and a few close buds till we can get another cross made.
I’m stoked, somebody fast forward a year.

That year will pass fast enough! They look fat and full. Five healthy is a good number, enough to judge the litter and few enough to manage well.  Are the black looking ones dark leopard or black with different trim?

I think the one under her head is a true black with a little white trim. One of them is going to color out like rusty I think, That liver hi tan color. Other is hard to tell. He’s got some brindle or something going on. He’s not a true black. Usually takes a week or so for them to finish changing colors.

One thing good, since it on my mind. Is if they live past birth to 3 months the dam ain’t have the Chagas.

On my mind because yesterday I was rinsing my dog waters and seen a bug, juvenile kissing bug by my oldest male house, bout the size of a stinkbug. I stopped it while filling water and it was full of blood.

Then went down rabbit hole and read if females have chagas they pass it in on and the litter usually dies quick or within 3 months

These kissing bugs are a bad thing.

I only git one female but I’ll definitely get her tested for chagas at lsu vet school before I’ll attempt to breed her if I ever want too.

Yessir. Had to clean up around my dogs because of that as they’re all under a century old oak Mott.

Hopefully this gyp don’t have it.

Now I get to worry about screw worm and these puppies. The flies are officially north of the I-10 corridor in Gillespie county. Always something.

All is well so far 10 days in. Pups look great and Misty is doing a fine job at momming for her second go. 1 female 4 males. Not sure how I’m dealing this litter out yet.

Far as the rest of the hounds they are running and gunning. I’ve got 6 head of 2 and 3 year olds that I’d show anyone anywhere and tim has 3 to match and we’ve got some short yearlings getting ready to start.
Long time coming to get back to a real string of using dog. Hopefully that string keeps growing and progressing the back half of this year in to next.

These from Sunday. Got done covering yearlings for Tim at the Cattle co. Hit the house and loaded spoon Theresa Lulu and Bug. Casted at 12:03 off By 1:03 I was back at the truck loading my buggy back up and we had 8 good hogs dead.

Been slow for us. I’ve been going a little but been solo just here around the house. Nickle and diming stragglers as I’ve got a neighbor in the next bottom over harboring a pretty good group. They’ve been living on him for 45+ days.  he’s a weirdo and his temperament is like a box of chocolates as Mrs.Gump would say, so I just try to stay away from over there. Even though I have rights on 3 sides of him.

Caught 2 hogs leaving the grain below my house late morning of the 4th. Introduced both of them to the underside of my buggy a few times at varying rate of speed. Then put a little boar in a pond and managed to go grab lizzo and come back and catch him.

Tied him to Barr him but he was dead 3 hours later. I rolled him pretty good lol.

May take the twisted sisters and Misty here in a little bit to try to bay one.

Went back grabbed cur dogs, camera said we were 3 ish hours behind the group at that point. Kicked 5 down and was picking them up 30 minutes later headed across the road into that country I don’t want to fool with. went around to and check the north end where I’d left a group of found late in the day last week after killing 3. They weren’t anywhere right the close so I called it.

Pups are doing good. Up and moving around now. I’ll have to get some pictures.

Never thought I would say these words, but I love me some Lizzo.

X2 WOW! She’s real hard not to like in and out of the woods. We’ve pulled a few out from under the buggy or wheeler that we parked on. Had a buddy call one night for us to come help tie one that his truck was holding down on the county road. We tied him and he was 280+ on the scales, lol. I don’t know how many more years we have of free range hog dogging. As fast as these places are selling and as weird as the people buying them are it’s getting real difficult.
