Been real slow for me/us . I just been enjoying this litter of pups around the house.

Loaded Theresa Lulu Spoon king and Mary Jane this morning. Figured I’d let them use their legs. Hadn’t been any hog sign or any on camera lately. Drop em down at the big house and Theresa Mary Jane(first hunt for this young gyp. She’s out of some cowdogs around Bryan tx. Dads supposedly top notch) and Spoon loop out around the edge of the ranch, trailed through a couple neighbors and come bayed in far corner of a neighboring place on the other side of the ranch. Lulu and king were hung up on a track in the middle of the ranch and went to them when they went treed.

I got around there. Had to hoof it the last 300 to them for lack of good gates. Could smell a good boar going in. He broke on me twice before they finally held him long enough for me to get a safe shot(hard with 5 dogs around).

I shoot him first at about 15 steps. He drops and pops back up in seconds. I close about half the distance and kill him with a second shot.

I look down and at the base of this cedar tree I’m standing at I see gold between my foot and the tree. Bend down, and it’s the first .44 slug I shot him with. Some how. 8-10 foot closer to where I shot from, than the hog ever made it. Hot as hell, but in perfect shape. I don’t really have an explanation for it, other than bullets do weird stuff. He was quartered to me. I was aiming for neck, high shoulder. Best I can figure I missed the spine and blew through the top of his neck. Bullet never opened and somehow bounced off something and back towards me upon exit. Wild stuff

That's pretty strange there. Good boar though.

Sounds like a good little hunt. Those dogs splitting up like that will put you in the hogs. They cover more ground and faster and in this heat of course that’s a good thing.

I have a young male, he’s almost a year exactly. He’s been doing really good and man he knows which end to bite and which one to bark at. So far he’s done everything I can ask for. I’m 90% sure he bayed his own hog but it broke before we got in there. I can tell you goes through the brush after a hog so hard that he knocks chunks of hide off his face. He looks like Rays twin.
