Carried the A-holes Spoon, King, and Rusty this morning. Hogs crossed below the house last night at some point. Turned out where hogs hit water in the ranch, wide open prairie. Took about half an hour but they finally worked the track about a mile the right direction, but no dew last night and no rain since mid July has us dry and trailing has done got hard. Spoon and king made 2 losses on it in the neighbors to the north and everybody brought it on back. Went and gar holed them to the east for a little before I went and dumped them back in that track they lost about half a mile further up. They looped south and come back 500 north and struck. Couple hundred yards race out of the slough they was bedded in to their water hole, and they were standing on her. Waiting half an hour for okay to go to em. Finally got to go. Broke her back and forth 4 times, 5th bay they bayed on top of another good hog and rusty and king/spoon were split by about 10 yards. Well I broke Rusty’s bay trying to get eyes on his hog and that turned into a pretty big dust up between 3 cur dogs and 2 pretty good sows. Had em both sat up and holding for a while but the fresh hog was pretty sporty, and kept breaking, finally she spun out and dogs stayed on the original hog. Finally shoot her and she was stiff about the time she hit the ground she was so hot. They got the 2nd hog bayed back pretty quick. And then she whooped their asses in 2 different dozed brush pile and then dumped them on a shoat back head south towards my place. Called it a morning after that. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1QkKD9Nf23/?mibextid=wwXIfrSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Looks like ole King is feeling a little more mobile. He tightened up but Rusty isn’t as tight baying as I figured he would be. That little sow thought she was tough. It’s for sure dry here too. We made a round the other day and the dogs ended up crossing the FM highway. We called them out about 2+ miles into it because they were trying to move it towards a another county road and I didn’t want to jump through all the hoops it was going to take to get them back if we even could. It was so dry though that my clothes and my hat were a different color than they actually are because of all the dust and pollen.

King is one of my tightest baying dogs forsure. Rusty the loosest by a fair bit. He is not what I’m after in that regard, but he does other things well and willingly. It’s the dog days of summer. They don’t call it that for no reason. Takes a real one to get it done this time of year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Rusty is for sale to the right home. $1500 2 years old. More of a trail dog than free casting but he will hunt a hog track. If he can smell the track he’s taking it how ever far he can. Can and will strike, and I’ve caught hogs with him solo, he just needs more and consistent hunting, I’ve got too many dogs, and not enough time or country. Son of sketch. Out of a T-dog stud. Legs and lung to go all day and he ain’t bad looking to boot. Most people would consider him pretty loose baying. I do like this dog and he don’t have to leave. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Rusty is on trial in Louisiana. And I got an early birthday surprise from lizzo. She slipped her collar while In heat, back on the 4th. I had sure hoped she didn’t get bred but it became apparent a few weeks ago she did, by one of my cur studs. 10 head of colored up pups. Daddy got to be my King dog. Have no idea what to expect with these other than they should be bred to run and gun. Will be a few for sale if she gets majority of them weaned. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I know it isn't a planned breeding but you could have done worse.

Mom and dad are both breeding quality in my book. Half of them might be usable and half might be not, but I’d bet they almost all work to some extent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thats a mess of pups, looks like there’s a color combo to suit just about anyone’s taste. I’m sure they’ll all hunt to some degree.

Went looking for a problem boar in the rain yesterday evening/night. Misty and Spoon were good for it, plus some. Bayed a good boar at last light, a pasture over from the one we were looking for. Coming back through the correct pasture afterwards headed for the house. Dogs rigged his bed now that it had finally quit raining. Hissed them on and they mad a big loop out around us and found him headed for water. Once he realized he was had, he was headed for his exit, but spoon and misty just wasn’t having it. Got a little sporty, but them leopards and me stay hooked. This got to be the biggest head I’ve ever seen on a wild hog. He weighed 250-260 and his head was 50 of it id bet. He knew how to use that head too. Sucker punched a hole straight through the field fence to get in the pasture he was in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That’s a good hog. I’m glad you got him. Water you say! The water has presented some interesting circumstances for us this year. We bayed some hogs 80 yards from a tank yesterday. A boar about 200# broke ran straight to the tank. He made in about 10-12 feet out and went under once , back up, back under, then belly up and dead. Just that fast. It happened to us two other times this year. Once cost me Outlaw and the other was a hog that had been running hard and hit the water in pond that was completely covered by shade all day. I can kinda see those two but this one was weird.

That is weird. I’ve run hogs hard enough to stroke them. I’d imagine a cold plunge while actively heat stroking would be bad medicine.

Little fun new for us that’s developed this week as well. We believe we have the next generation of leopard dogs on the way. Believe Tim got his Goose and Tiny dogs crossed. Tiny is starting to show bred after living with goose for last 3 months.

That wasn’t even the shot that put him down. Took one more. Luckily that little gyp of mine never turned loose of him. He was about to his hole in the fence. And we were without collars or lights, and he had caught the landowners old cow dog gyp in the thorax. Minor deal but she was lunging and had to be closed up. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1DpSAmTpDi/?mibextid=wwXIfr there is video. My Videographer was the land owners 6 year old little boy. That’s real running and gunning, sometimes I would carry my lever gun, it’s a 16” barrel Marlin. Real handy in tight brush, but I like being hands free, so I almost always carry my pistol. That means when I use it, me and the hog are close enough that we’re breathing the same air. A couple times I’ve just pressed it right up against them.
Your camera man will get better with more experience, I like to video the bay/catch because things happen so fast I forget all the details of how things play out. It gives me an opportunity to review the action and maybe learn something that might help me in the future.
