Hey guys, was hoping that one of you may know what is causing these sores? The dog is 14 months old and randomly had a bunch of sores on his face. Upon a closer look he had some fleas on him, he was the only one on the yard that had any but I went ahead and gave all the dogs some conserve to knock them out. He quickly developed more sores all over his body. I have now run him through a full cycle of amoxicillin and every time it looks like he’s healing up he has new spots. I thought he was scratching but I have not seen him actually scratching himself. I gave him a bath a few days ago and moved him from his chain to a kennel. I’ve also sprayed blue kote on him a few times but it didn’t seem to help much. These pictures are from today.

I am hoping that someone on here may know what’s causing it, if not I will be heading to the vet to try and figure it out. Also, no other dogs on the yard are showing any signs of having sores like him.

I’d bet on fungal issue. Betadine scrub will probably help and I would probably get a bottle of scrub from Walmart for staff and use as well. Mosquitoes can also cause similar sores.

Also clean out all the bedding. It gets damp and promotes fungal growth. Nu stock works, tinactin, or any anti fungal

Desertdog, I have been feeding the orange bag of Pride 27/20 for about 3 years now with no problems. All of my dogs are on the same feed and only this one is having a problem. I’m about to make a run to Tractor Supply in a few minutes to try and get some Nu Stock. I’ll give you an update if it heals him up. It’s frustrating because he’s one of my 14 month old dogs that have been doing really well but I haven’t been able to hunt him because of this. He was starting to look a little better so I made a short run with him last week and then he had some new sores, so I didn’t want to risk him picking up any kind of infection from the swamp.

I have had a couple of dogs get something similar to this. I put them on Cephalexin for 5 days and it cleared right up.

Thanks Cajun, if it doesn’t clear up in the next few days that will be my next step. Couldn’t get the nustock so I’m trying the blue kote several times a day to see if it makes a difference this time

TSC doesn’t carry Nu stock but many mom and pop feed stores do…

Any walmart or pharmacy has over the counter antifungal cheap. It works.  It looks a lot like ringworm, dealt with the same a couple weeks ago when we were getting lots of rain and humid. Clean any bedding in dog houses and even dog box. It takes a couple weeks to grow the hair back.

Good luck

Like Cajun said above… I use cephalexin. Mine break out in sores about twice a year and five days of cephalexin clears it right up. This is the stuff I use, you can order it online.

Thanks fellas, I will order some of the cephalexin today. The blue kote has not made too much of a difference. Every time it seems like he’s healing up some new areas pop up. He has got to where we have to wrestle in order to spray him, so hopefully the oral meds will knock it out

Goose, no I moved him off of a chain and in to an above ground kennel. His dog house can’t get wet inside regardless of bad storms, and I use wheat straw that I scoop out and replace entirely every few weeks. He has started healing, I didn’t end up using the ceohlexin due to him starting to heal before it arrived. He’s got a bunch of scabs on him now but no open wounds. I’m hoping that it won’t be much longer and he’ll be back to normal.
