I've had dogs caught in traps before but this seemed unusual, I heard him screaming and  got there quick, threw my jacket over his head and tried to get it off, he's not just trying to bite me, he's trying to full on attack me...I lost my grip and he chased me to the end of the chain, jumped up and bit my arm, several times he chased me trying to bite me, it's like he forgot who I am...What do you guys think?

I think that sucks bad for several reasons. I would say it was fear and pain both making him act out of character. You just gotta let him chew on that arm while you use the other one and your feet to get the trap off. I doubt there’s much you can do to traumatize him any worse so you just do what you got to get him loose. I’m assuming you got him out but he’s still being aggressive towards you?

I got him out of the trap..My question is do you think he reacted in a normal way or was this extreme?   He was in full attack mode on me, chasing me around and biting me...
How do your dogs react when caught in leghold traps?

Well…he’s got what it takes to be an aggressive bay dog/stop dog…if a boar hurts him it’s  Katie bar the door…
I reckon you will just have to try your best to treat him as usual, usual meaning like before the incident…

If you fear him going forward you probably will wind up having to get rid of him because he will probably be the boss if not…

Hmm...Never thought of it that way...He hasn't shown much grit but he's never been hurt either so maybe  I learned something.

The dogs behavior was not all that uncommon, it is sometimes hard to get one that is fresh caught out of a trap if you are by yourself. I wouldn't worry about him going forward unless he continued to show aggression towards you in which case you will have to be the boss at all costs. I've never saw one that didn't revert to the original behavior almost immediately after getting them out of the trap.
