Hunt with Larry Smith, Charles Gaines and Mike the knife. Caught a couple of small hogs Saturday and caught a decent boar Sunday. Pretty decent hunt with good people.

Trophy hogs are just a bonus. A good time with good people and good dog work is what it’s about.

Old Man, dry is the word. We were hunting at larry smith's deer lease in Tullos, La. They had not had much rain and the roads were pretty dusty. Found a good track on the road and Showtime trailed up and down the road and finally got him off thru a cutover. It was about 9:30 or so and the sun was already out. He never said a word until he hit the timber and started opening. Larry and Mike packed to him and they jumped the hog in another 1/4 mile. Ran him a little over 2 miles and bayed. We got within 200 yards and were walking in open woods. I was thinking this is too easy but he was bayed in a 20-30 yard briar patch that was some kind of thick. Turned two bulldogs loose and he was caught. Hog was a lot bigger then the pic. showed. He was about 250#. T-dog you are right. I enjoy this group of guys alot.

You think he knew those briars were there Mike or he just stumbled up on em ..LOL... its amazing to me sometimes how the rank hogs will find some of the hardest territory to bay in,, its almost like they walk out by things and make a mental note of if such and such happens,, Im gonna come back here ..

Highwater I personally believe that the big hogs absolutely do that. That’s why they are big hogs and not dead or caught. Others might think me crazy for thinking like that lol. I think it’s part instinct and part education from learning to escape predators like coyotes and Bobcats when they are little and even hog dogs while they are growing up.

Thanks everybody. If you follow hogs or bear, they will show you where the thickest nastiest places are. I know a hog likes a cutover better then deer. lol
