My nephew and my youngest boy made a round with me yesterday morning. It was a lucky cast as the dogs were bayed about 300 yards from us in just a few minutes. Had my nephews two dogs, Zeke and Moon, that are great aunt and uncle to my collie dogs. Also had my Shaymus dog a cousin on top and bottom to the collie dogs and had Outlaw, one of the collie dogs. The hog kept breaking bay but was moving towards us so we crossed the creek that was barley running. When we got up the other side we saw them turn the hog about 20 yards from us and had him spinning. I sent Loki and the boar (160-170#) spun the ear right down Loki’s throat lol. It was pretty watching. Shaymus found the second boar pretty close to where they originally bayed the first one so I’m assuming they were bedded together and probably brothers as they were about the same size. He was trying to leave also but they would turn him every 50 yards or so. We got up close and before I sent Loki I saw the hog break again and crossed a gulley. Another 75 yards and I think they caught him but he caught back. He broke and came by close to us and I sent Loki and he smashed him in the bottom of the gulley. The nephew took care of the hog while I took care of outlaw between where I thought they caught and the gulley. I wrapped him up with my shirt and we got out of there ASAP. I’m sure hoping he pulls through. He’s a tough dude for sure. I was out checking on him every little bit through the evening and until bed time. Then when I went out this morning he got up and came to the gate to meet me so that’s a good sign. I’ve done gotten pretty attached to this pair of brothers. They are fun and super easy to get along with.

Forgot to post the pictures. The one with nobody but the hog in it is the one that cut my pup. Only had one good tooth too. The other one was broke, go figure.

Good hunt and Dog work. Hope Outlaw makes a full recovery. Seems like this years crop of young male bay dogs have done well for you. Nice work on getting a solid line going.

I recall seeing a couple young catch dogs on their way up in your posts. Look forward to hearing about them when they are old enough to start.

That was a good story Thomas, sounded like a real nice hunt. I hate to hear about your young dog, I hope he pulls through and makes a speedy recovery.

Thanks guys.

Shotgun I took my female pup on her first hunt this very hunt. She’s never been exposed so under the circumstances all she got was travel through the brush with me. I hoping to get her going real soon. I think a lot of her just watching her but time will definitely tell if she has all the ingredients lol. I’m gonna guess she’s 75ish pounds now.
