My nephew and I made a long overdue hunt with an old friend this morning. My buddy Bart George finally made it back to Texas and we were able to make a round. He’s a game biologist in Idaho and and hunts nuisance big cats. They relocate most of them and do studies on them of course. He’s a real knowledgeable dog man and good hand. The first two sows were laid up solo nesting. They weren’t but about 120# each. We caught each of them and their couple day old sqeakers. Then they bayed a good sow that was probably 220# and piggy. We called it a hunt after that. It wasn’t a record hunt but it sure was fun to hunt with ole Bart again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good sow session, they aren't apt to hurt a dog either.

Yea Muddy they use hounds. They dart, collar, and relocate them to study which means they get to use hounds each time they need to dart them. It’s a sweet job for sure. Highwater if I wasn’t a dummy I would’ve done the same.
Old man you’re spot on, no injuries and a good time.

Glad he hooked up with you. He is a great guy and posts up some great cat photos holding them while they are collaring them. He has also been involved with studying the Woodland caribou which is now extinct in the US. Still some in Canada but none here in the states.

Cajun their dogs are just crossed hounds best I know to describe them. I think they are dogs from that region that were hunted and excelled on cats bred back to others that excelled and just kinda started doing some line breeding and got a little family going. He use to only run one dog at a time but evolution has changed that. He says he feels like it’s mostly because of the wolves. The cats have gotten to where they will kill a solo dog now because they get ran off their kill so often by the wolves that they are defensive. On top of that the wolves will kill a solo dog but aren’t as bad about a set of dogs but will at times. He said you can’t mess around getting there or you might not have dogs.

Yeah wolves have gotten to be a problem all through the Northwest including Mn., Wisc. and Michigan. In Wisc. where we hunt if we see wolf tracks on the bait or roads we hunt, we cannot turn loose in that block. at least in Idaho they have a season. Up there it is wolves, down here it is alligators. Always something.

Thanks y’all. She was nice to catch. Size and no real danger of getting anything wrecked. We knew she had a little size but until we put hands on her we couldn’t tell if it was a she or he.
