There’s hope Cajun. I had a cur dog doing the same thing, but his foot would just flop and he’d sometimes put the top of the foot down first. Over time it corrected itself - can’t say exactly why.

I hope he can make a recovery for you Cajun. My buddies Cash dog that sired my last litter was basically 3 legged. He got absolutely wrecked when the previous owner had him and he was retired to a farm dog. When I found out my buddy Desmond had bought him I couldn’t believe he was hunting him because I had seen the videos of him being worked on in the vet office and knew he was crippled. His Achilles’ tendon was severed and so that foot basically just drug on the ground with no control. That dog was still a hog finding machine and acted like it barely slowed him down.

We just went through this a couple years back. Had a hog break when the bulldog was almost there. He caught him in the rear ended and made him stop cur dog ran up trying to save the day and got hit when he came by the hog. Hit him in the back leg and got a nerve that controlled the foot. He couldn’t use his toes they’d just roll up. He ended up messing all the hide up on his foot till it calloused over. Never could do much after that. One vet insisted on cutting his leg off. We didn’t go for that as he probably wouldn’t have made it off the table.

It is probably best to cut the leg off but in some cases not necessary…I had a Welsch Terrier many years ago that got run over by a car…the leg needed to come off and he was a go getting little rascal without it…about as fierce a 20 pound dog could be…

My friend had his Plott ham stringed, doctoring did help and he chose not to have the leg cut off…the dog wasn’t as fast or as quick after the injury but he was a good hog dog…not being as agile eventually got him killed…

Sorry to hear about that Cajun. Seems like I’ve had everything happen this year that can as well. I accidentally ran over my 7 month old plott a couple months ago trying to road him before a rain. Then weeks after that we went hunting the weekend before bow season, the dogs casted out and it sounded like they jumped something then silence. They weren’t far and hunted around. I went to the truck to beat them to the road and my possum dog was locked up at someone’s gate he wouldn’t budge. I ran into the land owner and asked permission to get my dog He acted real weird but I didn’t hear any gun shots or nothing so I didn’t think any different. When I got to him and picked him up I knew it was bad the way his back leg looked but it seemed like everytime I handled it I had a different explanation and no idea of anything to be wrong with it by the time we got home. The plott seems to be healing fine and is starting to put weight on it. I just put him back on a chain a last week to rehabilitate some and get ready for after deer season. Possum on the other hand is hit or miss he is usually holding it up. I’m honestly thinking donkey there is sometimes one in those woods I heard. Or the guy ran him down in the sxs

It is still the same. It flops over about every third step.
