Title: 10/03/10 Hunt (Lost a Good Little Up-&-Comer)*Video Added*
Post by: got2catchem on October 03, 2010, 08:41:12 pm
Started off hunting this morning around 9am. Rex came down from Lampasas and I had the Landowner, Cassey, and Austin with me. Rex brought 2 of his Jagds (Luke & Crow) and his Dogo CD prospect Rip. I brought 4 curs (Levi, Stryker,Cutter, and a young BMC gyp) and 2 CDs (Ruby & Bocephus) with me.

We made our first cast and the dogs immediately blew out to 600yds, including Rex's young dog Crow, who has only been to the woods for exposure 2 times and this being his 1st time actually being hunted with the big dogs. Needless to say everyone was quite impressed with Crow.

All the dogs showed to be sitting at about 820yds or so and we made our way to them. We drove within 150yds and started walking the bulldogs in. The dogs had a nice boar bayed picture perfect in a tank. No thickets, blood weeds, and bayed in an open pasture. It was looking like a piece of cake. We slipped in to within 50 yds and turned the bulldogs loose and it was a sealed deal.

Things were really looking good. We had a nice boar caught within 10 minutes of dropping out, when disaster struck! Rex's young dog Crow was cut some kind of bad in the stomach and was layed out 5 yds from the tank. Everyone went into business mode and we killed the boar and immediately starting catching dogs before they rolled out.

We rushed back to the truck and started Crow on fluids and gave him a shot of dex. We made the 30 mile trip to the 24 Emergency Vet and were relieved when we arrived. Crow was hanging on and we were hoping we could get him fixed up.

They were waiting on us, and as soon as we arrived they got started looking him over. Unfortunately the Vet said that there was nothing he could do and that he was surprised Crow had made it there. Rex made the hard decision to put him down.

So RIP to Crow. He was sure a bright star that went step for step with the big dogs and showed a tremendous amount of heart and will. A young dog of that caliber only comes around once in a blue moon.

Rex, sure sorry about Crow.  Those young dogs just don't appreciate the danger.  Sorry for your loss.  My year old bmc died last week, he sure was making a good dog.

Sorry to hear about this as there is so much time put into a young dog before they even hit the field.  It's obvious that y'alls priority was trying to get Crow taken care of.  Best of luck on the next young dog.

Jeff

Thanks for all the comments guys. I was really bothered by what happened. Crow was my buddy and he was definitely going to be a dog! I had been working him in a controlled area and knew he was ready. Thought taking him where we did was going to get the best situation. Just the wrong place and wrong hog. Still not sure what happened but assume he got in that water and couldnt move like he should.

The boar was nasty and cut my other Jagd Luke pretty good too. Im sure he tried to hit the hog when Crow got hit.

Here is the video. I edited the end so it wouldnt be bad.

Sorry to hear about the jagd.  I sent one back home to Bud because if the hog had teeth he was getting cut. (Probaly because they are always getting the job done.  In my expierence with them, if they get to a bay rarely does the bay break and if it does it usually doesnt go far.)

Glad yall got the hog
