vet told my buddy that his dog burned his lungs up in this cold air. iv never heard of this happening to a dog, and im from north new mexico we ran dogs on mnt lions and bobcats and never had it happin. just wondering if any of you have had this done

I've heard of a dog getting this from swallowing to much pool water and the x-rays showed signs of pneumonia. The dog was rubbed on the chest with neem oil

Where in northern nm did you grow up? I grew up in espanola
 It happens when they get a frostbite like condition on their lungs. Happens alot in -10+ degrees.

probably all dried out and the alveoli can't make the oxygen exchange.

You know what happened to me today? I got all cold inside my gloves while we were hanging arena gates. I've never been so happy to keep running back and forth to the barn to get stuff we had forgotten! I had to run or jog everywhere to get my body heat up. My fingers had started to hurt inside two pairs of gloves. Took a minute for the body heat to get to my fingers, but it did work. The dogs thought I was nuts. Then my lungs were burning.

this cold was harsh and sudden, maybe dogs in colder climates get use to it, and the dogs hear in texas just are use to this cold and didnt have time to adapt at all, it was 60, then like 2 for 3 days

My dogs are loving the cold weather. They get their Victor coated in oil and they are really getting spoiled. Even in this cold, Tyson is steadily gaining weight. Usually, they would be losing weight to shivering. Only bad thing is that when the cold is gone they won't want to eat dry kibble...

what kind of oil are you putting on the victor?

What does that Victor cost a bag? and are you using Rice Oil?

The oil was a spur of the moment idea to help compensate for the calories lost by generating body heat. All I had was a half a gallon of vegetable oil. That's what I have been using. I roll the victor around in the bucket and stir to ensure that all kernels are well coated.

Rice bran oil contains gamma oryzonol which is a natural alternative to anabolic steroids. I bet that would work well. I've so much oil during this cold snap that I would go broke if I used rice bran oil.

I paid 21.95 today at the local feed store. I'm a dealer though I have been to lazy to go pick up my dogfood from the distributor.
