whats a good knife to use for stickin pigs?

I use my eye brand

brand dont mean much it needs to be comfortable for you i have used all kinda they all do the same damage

Kabar US Marine Survival Knife. You cant tear it up or break it... :) knife is about 12 inches long and blade around 7".

I personaly use a Kbar USMC....but the only advice I can give ya is whatever knife you choose, get one with a full tang handle. sweaty, muddy, bloody, wet hands WILL slide down a blade and cut the crap out of you without a full tang handle..jmo

What about something that holds its sharpness?

I had 2 knives made by Bill Middlebrook in Haskell, TX. He makes his own steel, damascus and powdered steel. They hold they're edge unlike anything I've ever seen. I have used them like a hatchet to cut ribs, even skint and quarter a 1500 pound steer and could still shave with it. He will make them however you design them. I designed mine from one end to the other.

It depends on handle material, blade material, length... but you can expect to pay from around 250 range to 500 for a custom knife like these. The bottom one in the pic has mammoth ivory scales so that makes it pretty expensive. Powdered steel is insanely expensive. Also, my blades were made with about twice as many layers as normal damascus.

Another good knife maker that I've met is this guy (link below). He has very nice high quality knives but a bit more expensive than Bill Middlebrook.

By the way, the one with the longer blade is by far my favorite. I have stuck several pigs with it and also use it to fillet fish. It was a little over 300 because of the length and handle. The shorter one was around 250 I think. Bill doesn't make a profit off his knives. It's just a hobby for him.

kabar us marine survival will hold an edge. I had to put mine in a vise and then filed the edge to the shape I liked.

Holding an edge is important for most knives but for sticking it is point. The edge does not get much use. What I see all the time is a dirty knife go in the sheath. Never do that mud, dirt, blood,  and such are horrible on a blade. Always wipe the blade to get most things off. Then ash with water. Creek or ditch water is better than nothing, and then dry it. Even a cheap knife should last many years. But when you lose it a cheap knife hurts less. Just get what you want that is long enough and take care of it.

Dont get anything exspensive or bulky my eye brand has a 4 1/8 inch blade and works perfectly

I'm at the point. I don't want anything flashy. Gold eatching silver. I just want a knife that is razor sharp and stays that way for awhile...I've even thought about getting disposable surgical blades and calling it a day.Maybe in a few more years I'll get in to the etching of knives and all..

I like the looks but would prefer a little smaller version to pack in the woods. It looks somewhat lightweight though. If I were getting a custom made knife I would use something like this for a pattern.

kbar  i love it  it holds its edge well and ive never had  a problem gettin it into a hog

10-4 on that... If you sharper the top side from the point back an inch or so the knife will enter like a real hot knife in butter. I have been using mine for over 30 years and I only sharpened it twice, when I first got it and then once later. I have cut 2 inch saplings with mine before. Don't abuse it any more because it has sentimental value... :)

That is the knife I carry. Heavy? Not even close. I carry mule tape in my pocket and that knife I don't need anything else. Maybe a dog lead or two over my shoulder.

As long as you can slide the blade in the arm pit they will die i use a yellow handle case for every thing killing and skinning and cutting hay string works for me.

I use my yellow handle eye brand the same way and i carry my yellow handle case in my pocket to cuz i lost my old eye brand once and didnt have a knife so now i carry two

k bar has came out with another knife called the pot belly , I seen it in boar hunter magazine , its a little longer than the origanal k-bar
