Title: Ugghh
Post by: TinyTexasCowgirl on February 28, 2011, 01:43:39 am
Just needed a place to vent for a min. Life totally sucks right now.

Here's the deal. A week ago Saturday someone unchained my pasture gate and turned my horses out, two of my A-list mares were both hit by trucks. They are gonna live, one mare's injuries are all strictly cosmetic. The other mare (my sister's barrel horse) didn't fair so well. She has a bone chip in her knee, as well as ligament and tendon damage from hyper-extending her knee that is possibly, and most likely, permanent. Last night, same story, except the horses stayed in the pasture praise god. Before you ask, I had put a lock and chain on the gate, but the chain was to small around for the lock to go all the way through, so it was just dummy locked until I could get a bigger chain, well they had to have walked up and looked to see that it was not locked. There are some people at the same property that rent the house, and their pup was on a chain, his collar was unbuckled and left on the chain the same times my horses were turned loose.

I called the sheriff's department and all they said was "we'll put them on the drive by list".

I have talked to several of my friends, and we all agree, it's someone close to me, that knows my life. The first time it happened I went to the pasture bout 10 pm and turned horses out of stalls, went home and went to bed. The second time I went and turned horses out of stalls about 6 pm, then went to Waco with my cousin and went dancing. Both times whoever it was knew that I wasn't gonna be back that night. The only problem is, for the life of me I cannot figure out anyone that would want to do this to me that knew what I was doing both nights.

Like I said, UUGGGHHH

Yup, put a camera on that gate ASAP. Make sure it's not set to take a picture every 10 minutes, you need them approaching, messing with the gate and leaving.
After you get pictures of them, immediately call the sheriff's department, game warden and everyone you know. Have pictures printed out and ready.
Let the law handle it but post up pics, vet bill prices, vehicle dmage costs in every feed store, supply house, 7-11 and coffee shop.
Get the community behind you at flushing them down the toilet. Maybe your insurance company has enough pull to help in prosecution, since they are paying out as well.

Guys, Thanks for the suggestion of the cams, but unless one of you has one a can borrow, that's a no go. Vet bills are at around 1200 right now and still climbing, so I don't have any money right now.

I plan on going and babysittin the horses next weekend, all weekend (both times it's been on a saturday that it's happened) Believe me, I'm gonna have my .40 on one side of me and my .308 on the other side.

Here kitty kitty. (in other words here p*ssy p*ssy!)

Ask around, close to home. This time of year someone should have one not in use. Keep after it.
Best advise I can give is do EVERYTHING you can to not be a victim.
Wonder if your insurance company might invest $85 in a Moultree. That's what mine cost.

I would find a good hiding spot near there to make sure it is not a bear. You know that they keep bears from breaking into cabins by taking a piece of plywood and putting nails or screws through it. Then placing it where they don't want bears to go. The bear steps on it and learns not to go there. That would be completely illegal to put something like that out for people. It may work for raccoons too ;D I think a little rubber or plastic around the gate where the chain goes and then hook hot wire up to the chain. Any man or beast will touch the gate when grabbing the chain. Then you take video from the camera and send it in to the video shows to help pay for the vet bills.

For real I would not try to run them off. I would catch that *&%#$ and they would be paying for the damage to the horses. If they let the dog go it sounds like some crazy animal rights person or just some stupid kid. Either way they should learn a lesson and you should be compensated for your loss.

I have been asking around, and no one has heard anything.

The insurance is not covering anything, and the guys that hit the horses insurance is covering their vehicles as if they hit a deer, so we're good in that department.

If I catch them, I promise, I am gonna make them pay for the mares, as well as personally escort them straight to that special place in hell for people like them.

Thanks for letting me vent y'all. Maurice is in Africa, so I'm dealing with all of this alone and it was really starting to pile up on me.

Just a thought on this. If you post on facebook that you are gone let's say to Waco dancing, anyone that you are friends with will know where you are and how long it would take you to get back home. If you think this might be the case don't post that you are away from home unless you think that someone is watching your fb page to see when you are gone, then post that you are gone to wherever but stay home and load the guns!

You need a bear trap set right in front of the lock. I would also run an extension cord out there and light them up when they touch the gate. A game camera is alright but they'll see it when it goes off. Even the infra red ones light up with LED lights.

Levi, I have already thought of that, and am setting them up tonight. I really am going out of town tonight, and I have a friend who is going to baby sit my horses with a loaded rifle tonight, as is the Sheriff's department.
